Monroe Morning World Sunday, Sept. 22. 1957 i-B Paul Martin Looks 'Em Over Down Tribe SPORTS Consider the dilemma of the Louisiana followers of the Milwaukee Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League pennant chase. Many of these southland fans have never seen the Cardinals or Braves play a ball game and just as many have never seen a major league contest, but pull for club their The Braves are strengthening their position steadily and that satisfies a lot of folks in this area.

But the Cardinal fans giving up and they're still envisioning the Red Birds before the cameras of the World Series. As one fan put it: of who plays the Yankees in the series going to see Louisiana products playing important Such customer appeal in our area includes Joe Adcock of the Braves, and Billy Muffett and Alvin Dark of the Cardinals. Adcock, former L.S.U. ace and native of Coushatta, is well known in this area. He played basebail for Olla in the old North Louisiana League (semi-pro) and has annually been an instructor for the Twin City Bovs Baseball Clinic sponsored by the North Monroe Lions Club, a February event for the past three years.

Muffett is a solid favorite of Monroe Cardinal fans in particular. He's the lad who used to pitch for the Monroe Sports of the Cotton States League, posting a 22-won 9-lost record for A1 Mazur's 1951 dub. Muffett was also named valuable in the Cotton States that year. Billy spent most of the current season at Houston in the Texas League but went up to the Cardinals a few weeks ago. becoming something of a stopper for the Cards as starter and relief man.

Muffett was not on the original series roster, if they make the grade, but was admitted to the series list only the past week. Austin Field Goal Defeats Indians, 10-7 NATCOGDOCHES, Tex.
