9 Men From District Are Among 158 Given Guggenheim Awards Dr. Edwin G. Nourse, former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, and eight others of Washington are among 158 recipients of new research fellowships announced today by the Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. The awards total $500,000. They mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the foundation.

Dr. Nourse will study the possibilities of an approach to dynamic stabilization of free enterprise within the structure of free the foundation said. He resigned from the Council of Economic Advisers last October. Other Recipients. Other recipients here and their projects are: Dr.

Marshall Clagett, assistant professor of history of science at the University of Wisconsin, who will study the early history of science, particularly physics and calculus. Dr. Clagett is the son of Judge Brice Clagett of the District Municipal Court of Appeals. Bray Hammond, economic historian and retired assistant secretary of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, who will prepare a history of banking in the United States and Canada. Dr.

John Hope Franklin, professor of history at Howard Uni-, versity, who will study the reactions of southern travelers to various aspects of northern civilization between 1800 and 1860. Dr. Kenneth S. Pitzer, director of the division of research of the Atomic Energy Commission, whj will prepare a book on chemical applications of quantum and statistical mechanics. To Study Archaeology.

Dr. Edward Willys Andrews IV, division chief of the Central Intelligence Agency, who will study early Mayan archaeology in northern Yucatan. Dr. Herbert Friedmann, curator of the division of birds at the National Museum, who will study parasitic reproductive habits of African birds. Dr.

Charles M. Wiltse, historian, who will complete the final volume of a three-volume biography of John C. Calhoun. Dr. George W.
