A similar anti-Communism theme is contained in the Sixth Column's statement of purpose, which says in part: "To support and defend the constitution of the United States of America in every legal way; to combat in lawful ways any person, persons or organization, or organizations which may attempt to subvert said constitution or to destroy the government of the United States To combat employment of school teachers in any of the public schools, colleges or universities who teach or propose to teach Communism To resist the infiltration of Communists and Communistic ideas into the 'hurches To advocate the thorough teaching of American history and civil government In the schools and colleges and to encourage the study of such subjects by the adult cit.izrn- ship make the trtiffedlAii the water's edireL (Intttrniitinnnit F5T i Ii or Not A mfVriM.
