net ami. paid (Cr payroll), 21,258.79, Pauline Herren, Co. Treas, American Family Life Assurance, 243.00 Legal Notices SUBLETTE Sewage facilities here are in operation again. Over the weekend, local health authorities cautioned residents against using too much water because a city sewage pumping station northeast of the city flooded on Saturday. At the time, townspeople were asked to use showers instead of bath tubs, which retained water.

Vor those without showers, it was like old times go without or find a good water hole. Water abounds And finding a water hole hasn't been difficult. Sublette, like most southwest Kansas communities, has received a record amount of precipitation during the month of March over six inches of rain. As if to apologize for the inconveniences of the weekend, residents have been urged to use extra amounts of water during a 24-hour period, which began Monday night, to help flush the city's sewage lines. Not only have the sewage lines been restored, but heavy rains Airport fee hit DODGE CITY The operators of the Dodge City Municipal Airport say they're "hacked off" at the federal government because of current not-too-publicized Congressional hearings concerning "enormous" rate- hikes for use of small rural airports.

Mike Gebhart, the airport manager, says a bill introduced in Congress would make noncommercial use of airports by most light aircraft owners nearly impossible because of increased usage fees. According to Gebhart, approval of the measure would all but shut down small airports in Southwest Kansas. Gebhart said writing to Washington lawmakers has had little effect. Of the several letters his wife wrote to Washington, D.C., protesting the legislation, he said, only Senator Edward M. Kennedy responded with a personal letter.

Towns note birthday Some towns, like some people, grow old without fanfare. Such a community is Syracuse, where residents recently celebrated the 100th birthday of the town's arrival of it's first settlers. Syracuse had its problems back then. Some of £he early women took one look at the settlement, refused to have their baggage removed from their trains and were returned to Hutchinson and supposed civilization. In contrast, Sublette is letting everyone know about its Golden Anniversary celebration this weekend.

About the only trouble that settlement had was a squabble with Santa Fe, another Haskell County community. It seems a county vote was taken back then to decide where the county seat should be located Sublette or Santa Fe. Voters decided on Sublette, and that's one of the reasons the town has become the largest community in Haskell County. Kansas Citian is nominated TOPEKA Leonard O. Thomas, Kansas City attorney, has been nominated for president-elect of the 2,700 member Kansas Bar Association by a KBA nominating committee headed by Topeka attorney Clayton Davis.

The committee also announced nominations for KBA vice president and secretary- treasurer. Richard L. Becker of Coffeyville was nominated as vice president and James R. Yoxall, Liberal, to a fourth term as secretary-treasurer. Thomas will stand for election as president-elect in May when currect president-elect J.

Richards Hunter of Hutchinson assumes the KBA presidency at the end of the Association's annual meeting in Topeka, May 16-18. Thomas would succeed to the presidency at the close of the 1974 annual meeting. COULD YOU USE ACOPIER FOR LESS THAN $1.00 PER DAY INCLUDING SUPPLIES? But if it rains here next weekend, Gov.

Robert Docking may be forced to cancel his scheduled appearance during Sublette's Golden Anniversary celebrations. Not because of the sewage problem, but because of poor flying weather.
