Coal boats were passing our city all Jay yesterday in rapid succession they have been coming through the locks since Sunday morning without interruption, and it is probable all of them will not be through till Wednesday morning. The Brownsville Packet Boats, and the West Newton and McKeesport boats have had to suspend their regular trips for a dy3' ln consequence of the coal boats coming through the locks. Allkohxy Rv Tbai-e -Business on the Allegheny has fairly set in, and we may look for plenty of rafts and metal boats in the course of a few days. The various steamboats navigating this important stream, have commenced their regular trips. The Allegheny Belle No.

3, Capt. John Hanoi, will leave this afternoon, at 4 o'clock, for Franklin and all intermediate ports. She is a new and elegant steamer, and has very superior accommodations. Jsf The Allegheny Belle No. 2, Capt.

Wm Uanna, will leave for Franklin and intermediate ports on Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock. See the cards of the above boats in our advertising columns. 81, The light draught and pleasant steamer Clarion, Capt. Mellinger, will leave for Kittan-ning and Cat Fish, each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at 3 o'clock, P. M.

This is a superb little steamer For freight or passage apply on board. 6- The Hiberuia So. 2, Capt. Charles Baeh-ellor, leaves this morning at 10 o'clock for Cincinnati. This is a safe an comfortable steamer, and is under the control of an experienced officer.

Don't forget that Capt. KounU's splendid new steamer -Pittsburgh'' will leave this afternoon at 4 o'clock, for Lr.uisville, stopping at all intermediate ports. She will no doubt be crowded with passengers, and we would advise those who wish to take passage to be early on board. The "Compromise." This splendid new steamer is up for to-day. Her destination is Red River, and we risk nothing in saying that she will be the most commodious and comfortable craft that has ever navigated among the Arkansas tooth picks in that interesting stream.

We wish her all kinds of success, and we commend, in an especial manner, to all who may have business with her, our friend Capt. Alex. McBride, clerk. A more honorable man, or a more courteous gentleman, cannot be found on the western waters. Babiso Robbkby.

VesterJay morning a daring scoundrel, not having the fear of the penitentiary before him, entered the house of Mrs. Susan McCullough, on Penn street, and deliberately walked np into the chambers, helping himself to such articles as he could find. Amongst the articles missing are a small mahog. any box, containing many valuable papers and some $550 in cash also two gold guard chains, two breast pins, and two setts of ear rings. A yuung lady, a daughter of Mrs.

McCullough, met a man believed to be the thief, coming dun stairs, and the fellow apologized for his intrusion, saying that he was looking for a Mr. Clark, who he understood occupied a room in the third story. This tale of course was trumped up for the occasion. The officers are now in pursuit of the thief, and we hope they will be successful. He is small in stature, with whiskers, and wore a brown coat and mixed gray pantalooDs.

The same scoundrel entered the house of Andrew Miller, in Second street, below Ferry, about ten o'clock on yesterday forouoon, and knocked at the door of a second story room where a ladv was lying in bed, owing to iudisposttion. She, supposing it to be one of the family, bade the person come iu, when he opened the door and inquired if any one spoke. The lady wished to know who was there, when the fellow asked if a man named Clark boarded there. On j-e-ceiving a negative answer he left the door but it was some time before he left the house.
