today will go to relatives of influential au thorities One of the choice arcade stores are has been as signed to Mrs Helen Gorski wife of Chester Gorksi former rep resentative former councilman and now a member of the State Building Code Commission Mr Gorski said the application for arcade space was made for a liquor store The present Gorski Liquor Store has operated for five years at 218 Gibson St fac ing the side of the market No State License Issued In its present location Mr Gorski said the store will be from market trade With the old market he ex plained much of the pedestrian traffic used Gibson St In the new market he fears Broadway pedestrian traffic will enter through the arcade and avoid Gibson St Markets Director rank Hoch muth whose responsibilities in clude the assignment of arcade stores and rriarket food stands confirmed that the Gorski applica tion has been eranted but raised a question whether the arcade space will be used for a liquor store noting that his most recent inquiry disclosed that no license for the new location has been issued by the state Since the arcade stores five on the east side and three on the west are comparatively small (ranging from 236 to 366 sq ft) their use is limited Mr Hoch muth explained They will be oc cupied by merchants dealing in such goods as jewelry gifts and baked foods Lone Bidder for Location Among the 37 meat and fish stands in the market proper will be one operated by Leo and Ben Adamski brother in law of Mrs Gorski The Adamskis butchers in Buffalo for years have had a meat stand in the market for a year and a since the mar ket tenants took up temporary quarters in the rear of the build ing to await its completion Mr Hochmuth said the Adam ski meat stand will be located at the south end of the market on the Gibson St side near the area where farmers and hucksters will operate Whether an espe cially desirable location remains to be seen the director said pointing out that there was no other request for the same space The market restaurant will ba operated by Mrs Betty Geiss who through marriage is related to Mayor wife Mary Mrs Geiss has held the lease for the past two years ac cording to Mr Hochmuth To Install New Equipment Although she operated the restaurant in the temporary quarters because facilities were inadequate Mrs Geiss has con tinued to pay the city $206 a month rent The director said Mrs Geiss is investing about $30000 in equip ment for the new restaurant located near Broadway on the Lombard St side of the market Mr Hochmuth said as near as possible tenants will be given ap proximately the same location that they cocupied in the old Within the next few days the director said he expects to take up the matter of new leases and new market rentals with the budget director and comptroller The new rentals will be scaled against costs to amortize expendi tures for the new market They will require Council approval More Blast Claims Validated WASHINGTON June 13
