Fern Schafer, Mrs. Hattie Slayton, Mrs. Margaret Lineberry, Mrs. Goldie Chance, Mrs. Della Dwiggins, Berneice Wise, and Mrs.

Penelope Williams, members of the local War Mothers Club were guests at the meeting of the Muncie Club held Monday evening in the Y. W. C. The president of the Muncie club, Mrs. Johnsony opened the meeting White, was in charge of the program for the evening.

Mrs. Gretta Roush, national president was the guest speaker and she reported that units had been organized in twelve states to date, and the organization is only two years old. Her talk was very interesting and she left with the mothers this thought and question, "Will We Mothers Be Ready as Christians for our boys to Come Home To?" She also stated that many of the boys are learning to know Christ since the service and will continue to know Him when they return home and mothers should be ready for that day and to be better Christians. Rev. William J.

Ayers, of the Friends Church in Muncie spoke on the text, "A Memorial Between Thine Eyes" and he stressed his talk mostly to the Gold Star Mothers. Ellen Marie Boyle sang 3 solo "The Lord's The American flag was presented to the Muncie unit by the Women's Auxiliary and following the presentation, Mrs. Boyle sang "Your Flag and My Ernest Boyer, m)isic teacher in the Muncie schools sang two solos entitled, By the Bend of the River" and "God Touched the There were five gold star mothers present from the Muncie club and were presented with gold pins. Mrs. Williams of the local club read two poems written by her cousin, Mrs.

William D. Wahl, a gold star mother, who dedicated the poems entitled, "Tokens" and the "Landing Field" her son, killed in a plane crash. The presidents of the clubs spoke briefly and the meeting was adjourned. A social hour was held. The next regular meeting of the local club will be on Monday evening, April 3.

The club have been invited to attend an Easter party to be given at the Legion Home on Monday evening, March 27 as guests. Merry Eight Club Met Mesalam Home The Merry Eight Club were delightfully" entertained at the home of Mrs. James Mesalam of South street, Monday evning. Winners in bridge were Mrs. Darris Bishop and Mrs.

Roy Wilhelm. Mrs. Wilhelm also won the traveling prize. Guests of the club were Mrs. Garfield Pettigrew and Mrs.

Wilford Borst. Members attending were Mrs. Roy Wilhelm, Mrs. Darris Bishop, Mrs. Booth Hamilton, Mrs.

Harold Hennegan, Mrs. Floyd Riley, and the hostess Mrs. Mesalam. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Floyd Riley, 628 South A street on Monday evening, April 3.

Farewell Party For Mrs. Gootee A group of friends cleverly surprised Mrs. Kate Gootee with a farewell party at her home recently. Mrs. Gootee left Friday to join her husband who is stationed in Maine with the Seabees.

Euchre was enjoyed and winners were Mrs. Mary Snyder, Mrs. Cletus Castor and Mrs. 'Annabelle Ooten. Those present were Mrs.

Mary Snyder and son Junior, Mrs. Annabelle Ooten and daughter Joyce, Patricia McGuire, Phyllis Knotts, Mrs. Elsie Epperson and son J. and daughter Shirley Ann, Shirley Ann Ross and the guest of honor Mrs. Gootee.

Dinner Party Given Tipton Home Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jarrell of Tipton, were host and hostess to a lovely birthday dinner at their home, Sunday. The dinner was given in honor of Joe Hartman of Tipton, father of Mrs. Harry Hickman of this city, and great grandfather of Mrs.

Jarrell, who celebrated his ninetieth birthday anniversary. Those present with the guest of honor Mr. and Mrs. HarTy Hickman, Preston Adair, Mr. and Mrs.

Warren Carpenter, Kenneth Webb, Beulah Mae Stookey and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jarrell and son Donnie Joe. The occasion also marked the fifth birthday anniversary of Donnie Joe Jarrell. Sigma Phi Gamma Meets Tuesday Eve Members of the Sigma Phi Gamma sorority will meet this evening at the Public Library for their regular business meeting.

All members are asked to attend. Delta Theta -Tau Party Monday Evening Membership of the Delta Theta Tau sorority will be entertained Monday evening at a party and business meeting the, Hotel Sidwell at 7:30 o'clock. Mrs. Edward Land, Harry Hoppes, Mrs. Earl Nutter, and Miss Betty Moyer, compose the committee in charge of arrangements.

Reservations are to be made by evening, March 23, Thursdays, Harry Hoppes, phone 358. All members are invited and are urged to attend. Approaching Marriage Of Richard Saxton Is Announced Today Announcement of the approaching marriage of Richard Saxton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Saxton of Elwood, and Miss Yvonia Powell, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Millard Powell of Alexandria, was made today. The wedding will be solemnized Thursday evening, March 23, in Alexandria. The bride-to-be attended the schools in Alma, Arkansas. She is employed at the Johns-Manville Corporation.

Mr. Saxton is a graduate of the Elwood high school with the class of 1942, is a member of the Eagles lodge of this city, and is employed at the Anderson. Corporation in Lutheran Women Meet Monday Eve The Lutheran Women held their regular monthly meeting Menday evening at the home of Mrs. George Volkmar, on North street. Mrs.

H. C. Hadley opened the meeting by reading followed the 26th Psalm which was by sentence prayers. Hymn reading by Mrs. Charles Tobin, and the scripture lesson from Genesis 13th Chapter five to thirteenth by Mrs.

Hadley. verse, WHadley also in charge of the topic "Road of Willing Sacrifice." Subjects given under this topic were "Sacrifice in Religious HisMrs. C. D. Williams, "Sacrifice A Test," presented Life" by Bert Wilson, "Saintly by Mrs.

Jonas Bambrough, "SelfDenial Enriches Life" by Ellen Bambrough, and "Kingdom Growth Too Depends on Sacrifice" was given by Mrs. Claudias Baker. A general discussion of the topic was held by Mrs. Volkmar, Miss Sarah Hadley, and Miss Elizabeth Bambrough. During business session it was decided to change the date of meetings to the second Monday of each month.

Plans were also made for a Mother and Daughter banquet to be held some time in May. A social hour was enjoyed and refreshments served by the hostess. The next regular monthly meeting will be on Monday evening, April 11, at the home of Mrs. Claudias Baker. Sonny Pedro Is Guest Of Honor At Birthday Party.

Mrs. Joseph Pedro, residing at South and 28th streets, entertained a group of little friends in honor of the fourth birthday of her son, Sonny, their home. The table was beautifullly decorated in the colors of pink and white and a large birthday cake with candles marked the centerpiece. Games and contests were joyed, and favors won by Carolyn, and Roland Cox. Those attending with 'the guest of honor were Nancy Bucci, Larry Pedro, Joretta Pedro, Catherine Sue Pedro, Rolland Cox, Carolyn Cox, Jerry Jackson, Teddy Pedro, Julia Bucci, Jimmy Pedro, and the hostess Mrs.

Pedro. Busy Bee Class of United Brethren Church Meets Monday The Busy Bee Class of the United Brethren church met on Monday evening at the home of Miss Carolyn Cox, 735 North 14th street. Officers for the coming year who were elected recently are Clara Beeman, president, Joan Stone, vice president, Joyce Hussong, secretary-treasurer, and Johanna Fox, assistant secretary-treasurer. Following the business meeting games were enjoyed and the favor awarded to Miss Joyce Hussong. Visitors of the class were Barbara Luyet and Patty Nash.

Members present were Joyce Hussong, Clara Beeman, Vera Nash, Velma Everling, Barbara Kelly, Johanna Fox, Joan Stone, Joanne Hillard, Roselyn Luyet, Betty, class Everling, the teacher of Mrs. Mary Cain, and the hostess Miss Cox, who was assisted by Mrs. Isora Cox and Mrs. Icel Moon. The next meeting will be on Monday April 17, with Clara Beeman on North street, at 7 o'clock.

Patrick's theme, and green top hats filled with white roses marked the three centerpieces of the serving tables which were flanked by tall green tapers. Following the dinner indoor golf was enjoyed with the favors awarded to Mrs. Harold McCreary, Mrs. Paul Leach and Mrs. Robert Hiatt.

The door prize was won by Mrs. Don Lankford. Hostesses for the party were Miss Georgia Gray, Mrs. Ray Ripperger, and Mrs. Reed Schafer.

Rural Route One, Elwood Visiting Relatives Mr. adn Mrs. Briggs Francis and son, who have been in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where Mr. Francis has been stationed are visiting in Windfall with relatives. Mr.

Francis will return to Chanute Field, Ill. and Mrs. Francis and son will remain with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Tolle, and other relatives for an indifinite visit.

Miss Parrish And Mother Ill Miss Marie Parrish who for many years has been reporter for the Elwood Call-Leader remains seriously ill at her home in Windfall. Mrs. George Parrish, who has been assisting in the care of her daughter, suffer. ed a heart attack, Wednesday morning. Relatives and friends are assisting in the care of Marie and her mother.
