Carl Davis, starting his third year as pastor of the Carrier MilJs Methodist church, has been active as a minister in the Southern Illinois conference churches since 1933. Mr.

Davis, a native of White county, his ministry in neighboring Hamilton county, being appointed to the McLeansboro circuit which included six churches. After two years in the McLeans- pointed to the church at Hartford in the E. St. Louis district, where he remained for seven Then came a 2-year stay at the Bond Avenue Methodist church in E. St.

Louis, also in the E. St. Louis district He then spent 11. years in the Carbondale district, five years at Irvington and six at Karnak. Then came the appointment to Carrier Mills in the Harrisburg district.

Rev. Davis was born reared on a farm in White county and attended the three-year high school at Mills Shoals and was graduated from the Crossville high school in 1931. His father was a farmer and school teacher and a devout Methodist so the Rev. activity in Methodist church work dates back to an early age. He has a brother also in the ministry, Rev.

Ellis Davis, who at one. time tored Galatia Methodist church and at present is at Medora. In fact the family roots are deep in Methodism on both sides of the house as Mrs. Davis, the former Miss Olive Files, and Rev. Davis were childhood friends in the Methodist Sunday school in their home community not far from Norris City.

While atending the Mills Shoals high school Mr. Davis played basketball and at Crossville played both basketball and football. 'The first football game ever saw was from a guard position in the Crossville line," Mr. Davis recalls. With a smile he stated that he was "willing but inexperienced" and after leaving the huddle had to ask the tackle to quickly explain the forthcoming play.

After high school young Davis enrolled at Asbury college, and attended the school a year. He then took up evangelistic work, preaching and leading the singing at revival services. After three years he re-entered college, en rolling at McKendree. He was a member of the McKendree Glee club and also did some quartet singing. He was graduated from McKendree in 1938.

He remembers 1938 as the biggest year in his life. In addition to graduating from McKendree, Rev. Davis also completed the Southern Illinois Conference course of study, was ordained as an Elder in the Methodist church and was married. There are five Davis children-a daughter, Charlotte, and four sons, Raydean, Henry, Paul and Cletus. Greatly interested in young people, Rev.

Davis' tak a part in the regular youth activities of the church and also is interested in the Scout program. At present he is a committeeman for the Scouting program in the Carrier Mills Methodist church and was Scoutmaster in a-former church sponsored Scouting program. He enjoys watching baseball and basketball and lists his hobby as "gardening and just working in the yard." When Rev. Davis first came to Carrier he pastored only the local Methodist church, but starting in June of 1956 he was also assigned to the Methodist chureh at Stonefort. He conducts a morning worship sen-ice at Stonefort each Sunday at 9:15, then returns to Carrier Mills for a 10:30 a.

m. worship service and also for other services throughout the day. The past year was a successful one for both churches with 28 new members accepted into the Carrier Mills church and five at Stonefort. Of this number, 24 came by profession of faith, seven by letters from other Methodist churches and two by letter from other faiths. For the past eleven years Rev.

flev. Carl Davis has been statistician for tht Southern Illinois Methodist conference. News From LEDFORD By Baffle Dennis Walker of Pontiac, is visiting his grandmother, Lillie Dennis, and his uncle, Dennis son of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Walker.
