Sept 1Z The stne of the 750 employes of the Savage Arms Corporation, precipitated 11 weeks ago. was settled late this afternoon and the plant will resume operations in full next Monday. The men walked out following notice that the plant was to be placed on piece work. The settlement was made on the basis of proposition made to the strikers three weeks ago by the company. It carries an increase of five per cent in wages.

Stewart Thompson. NEW CASTLE, Sept. 12. -Stewart Thompson, 73 years old, veteran of the Civil war, merchant and former county commissioner, died today. He served as a councilman of West New Castle before it became a part of this city.

In the Civil war he served with Company F. One Hundredth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded at the battle of Spottsylvania. He was born in Eastbrook, near this city. He leaves his widow, four daughters.
