CONGRESSMAN Vote of Cumberland County for Congressman It is all over including the shouting and with the possible exception of a recount here and there Yesterday's primary in Biddeford and York county Publicity Committee City nail Portland Me tight little stronghold of the Democracy not a Democratic vote was polled The great feature of the election was the heavy vote casj for Judge Deering in the two cities and in fact throughout the county Because of the torn fool nature of the primary law which requires the polls to be kept open until 10 o'clock at night in the country precincts as well an in the large towns and cities it was past midnight before any sort of an estimate of results could be made In many back towns although tho left the Webber hospital and is at his home on May street He officials and in some instances it is said even they went home and to bed as soon as the clock struck 10 leaving the counting and tabulating of the vote as unfinished business to be attended to after this afternoon and with a ibig smile over his face stated that he had extended congratulations by telephone to Sheriff Haven A Roberts of Sanford over winning tha nomination Monday "I fought the batle as clean as possible and am satisfied that the best iman won and shall do all in my power to see that Wells does its duty for the Republi There are many suchJjut chief among them are: DIZZINESS tickets in the fall" said Mr Clark ulating the vote was tedious and slow On every side one hears the expression of regret that York county's favorite son failed to land the gubernatorial nomination but this feeling is coupled with admiration for the plucky fight he made and for the splendid vote which he received Both York and Cumberland counties did themselves proud in rolling up a heavy vote and majority for Judge Deering In his home city and in Biddeford his support and lead are overwhelming proving that in this case it is not true that the prophet is without honor in his own country The result in the state-wide vote for the governorship is- decisive enough to show beyond any doubt that the third term aspirations of Governor Milljken have been knocked into a cocked hat and to give assurance that no future holder of that high office will fail to take notice of the solemn decision of the Republican party that two terms is enough for any governor and are all that will be accorded him Boston June 22 Governor Cool-idge went to Maine today Ho left this morning for Augsta where he is to spend the night as the guest of Governor Milliken Tomorow he will go to Lewiston to attend the second term without fighting for it However this statement is a bit ambiguous for it may be that the Bangor man will make so good a governor that the next "contest" will not come until 1924 The most disappointed people in Maine today are our Democratic friends They had hoped rooted and prayed that Milliken would win out as in that event they felt sure as in truth did many Republicans that their own candidate Mclntire would be the next governor Now all their hopes have gone a-glimmering and once more we are reminded that the prayers of the wicked availeth not TOE WAS FRACTURED Gedeon Boutin
