The "American Wool and Cotton Reporter" will say of the wool trade to-morrow: There is aa yet no Increase to be noted In the amount of business in progress In the WOOl market. In fact the market has ruled ouieter the oast weelr than tnrimr the previous week and we figure the sales at only pounds against 3.hT..fy pounas a wee ago. Some of the large mills reported In the market, but with Kinj uiio exception tney nave taken very small quantities of wool. The trend of the goods market is apparently toward an improvement, but the clothing trade are suu ouying goods In a very conservative way. wmcn is reflected In a very quiet demand for wool.

Prices continue In favor 01 me ouyer except on tine wools, which are pretty firmly held In view of the strength shown in the country and the relative firmness of fine stock at the London sales. The excitement in the West has abated. Two of the largest dealers In the market have bought no wools in the West, believing that the prices which have been paid there are not warranted. Not over 2a.0u0.00d pounds of new wools thus far this year have been bought out there and conservative dealers are of the opinion that new wools can be bought at more favorable prices later on at any rate they are willing to take their chances of securing wools later at as favorable terms as are at present quoted. The sales for the week in Boston amounted to pounds domestic ajid pounds foreign, making a total of against a total of for the previous week and a total of 1.150.000 for the corresponding week last year.

The sales since January 1 amount to 1.12T0 pounds against 61,48.9 pounds for the corresponding time last year. Butter, Cheese and Eggs. NEW YORK, May 23. Butter Receipts, 931 packages; firmer; creamery factory, H-SiLJic. Cheese Receipts.

Rumors that the July "deal" was abandoned and that some May and June notices were in circulation added signally to the weak ruling of the market after the call.

The Philadelphia Company is putting in free Natural Gas connections this summer with a view to increasing Its domestic fuel trade, and offers the following hints to housewives, viz: Natural Gas Is cheaper than coal if used in good gas stoves. It is a great luxury. No need to rise in the early hours of the morning and wait for the wood and coal to kindle.

No need of scuttle and ash pan. It soils nothing, leaves no dirt, and does not smudge the fingers or blacken the clothing. It wastes nothing, gives Its maximum heat immediately and can be shut oft as soon as tne cooking is done. Application should be made without delay. Buyers who place stocks in cold storage have big orders In at Elgin for June make at lSc or thereabouts and the result is that the market is steadily maintained, although the large stocks Indicate that prices should be much lower. The accumulation of stocks is heavy at all points. In thts city alone being estimated at to tubs in excess of requirements. The cheese market Is firm and eggs are steady on a very good demand. Strawberries w-re leaky this morning and were quoted all the way from 71140 a quart, the latter price for fancy stock.

Arrivals continue heavy. Total receipts of coffee at New York and New Orleans yesterday were sacks. These large shipments are explained by the fact that two big interests are opposing each other in the effort on the one side to bear the market and on the other to bull it. Higher prices, the bulls state, will soon come about, as planters will curtail production, owing- to the small and unremunerative prices now realized. The bears, on the other hand, maintain that there will be no decrease In production, as it will more than keep pace with the demand.

New York Metal Market. NEW YORK, May 29. A slightly higher le-vel was obtained In tin in the local and foreign market for metals to-day. WIGLEY )UJ cause thev haven't cot the price. He ex plained his wonderful thirst on the ground that he was always assigned to write on dry subjects. For Instance, he once wrote a romance on the National pike versus the clav road, and his pencil stirred up such a dust that he got the stonecutters consumption, and was compelled to drink to get the dust out of his throat. That fellow drank so much and so frequently that he got a disease known as bei-rosis. The symptom is a muscular thirst, which, the more it is fed the less it is satisfied, or rather more beer is required to get relief, which don't come.

He became such a fiend that he had beer prepared in tabloid form, which he smoked In his pipe. He got that he couldn't do the least stunt unless he was saturated with the amber fluid. Finally he became beer daffy and imagined he lived in a brewery. The doctor knocked him down with a club and tied him in a cave for six weeks, and then he realized that he had been buying morj beer than bread. Alkalithia was prescribed, and he recained his health, and now is able to write about such dry subtects as cornstalks, lime, sawdust and free lunch without eettlng that choking sensation in his swallow.

But alas and alatk and alack and alas! what boots it all since he has become an alkalithia drunkard and his last state is worse than his first." ohkkn kritts. Apples HiS tJ fruit, Lt nicns. Messina. 13 bt $, 003t.pt do. fancy $3 F-0 C-onuta, per I.imen.
