Odom said in a telephone interview when reached in Jas per that Miss Dana Hughel, 23, Anderson, managed to escape from her kidnaper when he stopped her car and allowed her to go to a service station restroom just south of the Gcorgia-Florida border.

Odom said the suspect drove away in the car when Miss Hughel did not return. Odom started trailing the car south of Jennings, the town near which Miss Hughel escaped, and chased it 12 miles into Swanee County. The Florida state trooper said he struck the rear of the car the suspect was driving on U.S. 129 at Interstate 10 and the auto spun off the roadway. The suspect gave no resistance upon hri arrest, Odom said.

(UPI) The growth rate of corn and soybeans in Indiana has lagged from 1971 standards by about 10 days due to later planting and cooler average temperatures. That was the word today from Earl L. Park. Agriculture Department statistician at Purdue University, who said corn averaged 32 inches high by tlie end ol last week, a gain of 11 inches over the previous week. A few southern fields are beginning to silk.

Park said soybeans gained two inches in the same period and were nine inches high by the end of last week. The winter wheat crop, now 65 per cent ripe, was nearly all combined in the southwest part of the state but progress in other areas was considerably less advanced. Wheat combining averaged 25 per cent complete, falling behind the 30 per cent average and the 40 per cent last year. OBITUARIES JAMES A. REED BLOOMFIELD James A Reed.

I am probably not too different from those few honest souls my profession who admit that what the reviewers, and the people who trust the reviewers, say about them is important to them. I would like to be professional enough to truly fe 1 that a critic is just one more member of an audience and that 1 should never work any harder for that "one than I do for any other. However, I have not reached that saintly state.

For this reason, I prefer not to know when a critic is in the audience. I think I do a lore honest job of playing that night being unaware of or presence. When I am told of a critic being part my audience, I tend to gauge my performance accordingly. I i I so differentiate among the various critics. I tailor bits of action ir delivery of dialogue as my previous knowledge of that taste dictate, 1 am glad I know my critical audience that well.

It dees help. AH this previous parable is to point out the importance of a critic being known, i think the Shawnee reviewer should have a byline. Having read the first two reviews for the sum mer of I would say the resident drama personal style would make this signing of the review even mo-g imperative. A writer whose style includes the frequent use of the pronouns or has already adopted too familiar a tone to remain anmny mo us. I am personally looking for- word to enjoying some of the entertainment at that Greene County Summer phenomenon, the Shawnee Summer Theatre, and am also looking forward to reading some more of the critiques.
