Farley Young has been appointed io conch the atate univeraiiy freshman football squad this fall, according to an announcement made Monday morning by Athletic Director W. Luehr ing. Young was selected to take the yearlings off Coach mind aometime ago but the announcement had been withheld pending Mr. ing'a return from New Hampshire, be spent the summer instructing in swimming at various resorts.

Young graduated from Lincoln high school in the spring of 1916 and was a member of the Cornhusker freshman football squad in the fall of that year. He was a member of the varsity in the fall of 1917, playing guard during that Shortly after the of the football season he enlisted in the navy where he sei-ved with the wireless telephone division for seventeen months, returning to the university in the fall of 1919. In the 1919 and 1920 seasons Young played at both guard and tackle positions on the Cornhusker eleven, completing his years of competition. He Is years old and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity at the university. He was married last Christmas.

Young will complete his course in law at the university this year besides acting as mentor for the Husker yearlings. His football experience antedates his university record by three years. Young played at guard for the Lincoln high team in 1913, 1914 and mak ittg a record in the line during his trio of seasons with the high school eleven. He was captain of the team in 1915. Coach Dawson feels that the freshman squad will have plenty of experience in draw from when they are under the guidance of Young.

Moss at Corner is optimistic abutit the Dull gridiron showing in the state conference this season. With nine letter men returning the initial practice will be held on Wednesday afternoon. Floyd Smith, who assisted in the University of Nebras ka freshmen last year has been secured as football coach; A. Moss, head of the chemistry department, is going to act as his assistant. Captain Kaldal who was to pilot the eleven thru this season is not returning; he has entered a university of the Pacific Wednesday afternoon before the tirst workout a new captain will be elected.

The nine letter men returning are Eltzel miller, end; Thomas, end; Salladen, tackle; Kline, TiaU; Cooper, half; Shull, half; Pie- rart, guard; Davis, guard, and Roland, quarter. With these experienced men Coach Smith Is going to whip them into tiptop shape to meet the Cotner alumni team on October 1 on the Fat ner gridiron. The Bull schedule will open with Mornlngside at Bethany on October 8. The first conference game will be played with Doane on October 15 at Bethany. On October 21 Grand Island at Bethany.

We have no less than a thousand letters from fans all over the country, some of them containing checks for sule stantial amounts. The letters tell us how glad the writers are to help one of the greatest ball players that ever lived.

The Law 1 ora Sorting Goods team won the Armstrong Clothiers 5 to 4 in a hotly contested game at the last of the double header. A large crown attended in spite of the chilly weather. It was announced between the games that the Greenwood-Wilber game for tlie state chafnpionship would be played at Rock Island park at 3:30 Wednesday.

Greenwood failed to turn up for the game d- uled for Saturday owing to a niisun derstandfng with the management, the Greenwood team being under the impression that the game had been postponed due to the inclement weather. Second Game. Taking the lead in the second in ning by scoring three runs od errors by the Clothiers and timely hits the Lawlor team won from the Armstrong aggregation by the score of 5 to Armstrongs scored in the fourth frame but tied with the Law lors who also ran in one in that inning. The game stood 4 to 4 until the sixth when Lanphere ran in the winning tally for the Sporting Goods team. Both teams were braced up during the game by refreshing the pitching mound with new tvvirlers. Kline put the Lawlor team in the hole in the fourth.

With three men on bases the Lawlor management jerked the tall slabman and put Peterson on the mound, Kennedy going behind the bat ami MeKibbon taking the la place in center field. Peterson allowed two men to cross the plate tying the sore, walking in one, run and hitting Runyon for another. -However, he tightened up and stopped the ninth batsman when Crandall threw' him out at first. Brehm went on the mound for the Clothiers in iue ninth and w-as successful in preventing the Sporting Good team from getting any more tal lies. The score: Boupr.

Boxing Commissioner Lum Doyle Monday that his visit to Grand island to settle the dispute between Alex Gallipaux and Plop Holmes over right about a month ago had happily. Holmes and Gallipaux both went thru the ropes in their recent match and the referee called the event no bout. Since the battle was for the gate receipts both participants there in became dissatisfied immediately and have been wrangling ever since.
