John Goode, Mrs. Russell Rush and Mrs. Earl Southers. Federated Club An interesting program featured the meeting of the Priscila Art and Literary club held Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Sherman Hill near Raleigh.

The collect and flag salute was followed with responses of What Constitutes a Good Mrs. Justin Rees gave an teresting paper on, describing the postal department and Mrs. Curtis Scholl gave an excellent talk on, -Lesser Men of the White Miss Miriam Fry read a paper, pre! pared by Mrs. Donald Shields i and the program closed with a I reading, Lost Val' entine refreshments were served I by the hostess. church were entertained at the home of Mrs. Claude Miller in Arlington Thursday afternoon when fifteen guests were present. The meeting opened with song and prayer, after which the business session was conducted. The remainder of the time was occupied with piecing a quilt. At the close of the afternoon delicious refreshments were enjoyed.

Gowdy Circle Friendly circle of the Gowdy M. E. church was entertained Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Dwight Davison with Mrs. Winnie Barlow as assisting hostess.

Thirteen members and three guests were present for the program and social hour. The program opened with song followed with a business session. Mrs. Dave Alter gave a paper on, of Lincoln and and Mrs. Ollie Reed spoke on, A reading by Mrs.

Irene Foster and a duet by Mrs. Lorene Tillison and daughters, Elizabeth, closed the program. Contests and met Thursday afternoon in the assembly room of the church with Mrs. Russell Glendenning, president, presiding. The program opened with a hymn and Prayer by the group.

Mrs. P. H. Chadwick had charge of the devotionals, the subject being, Grace for Every i The special selections for the program were two piano los by Mrs. Richard Dishinger.

Mrs. Nelle Brown gave an inter- estining discussion on, Beyond Rio During the social hour the February group served light refreshments. Valentine Party All members of the Primary department of the Main Street Christian church are invited to attend a Valentine party in the basement of the church at two Saturday afternoon. Jessup-Perkins The secret marriage of Miss Eileen Perkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

C. E. Perkins of Marion, to J. Malcolm Jessup, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Henry Jessup of near Carthage, was announced Saturday night at a party given by Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Powers at Marion. The ceremony was performed June 29, 1935, in the Central Christian church at Lexington, freshments made up the social the usual manner by repeating! the collect and giving the salute to the American flag. It was vot- I ed to donate to the disrict stu- dent loan fund and to the penny art fund.

Also there was donated the milk campaign. Mrs. Ralph Elwell, Mrs. Ed Pitman and Miss Grace Spencer were appointed on the program committee for the coming club year. Adams by James Truslow Adams was reviewed by Mrs.

F. C. Mclntire and this was followed with a discussion. The program closed with a salute to the Christian flag. The March meeting will be an all day meeting devoted to institute work in the afternoon.

LEWIS SALARY DOUBLED Washington, Feb. 6 The United Mine Workers voted this afternoon to increase the salary i of their president, John L. Lewis, from $12,000 to $25,000 a year. They are residing in the E. C. Adams property at Eighth and Main streets in Fairmount. Missionary Society Members of the Glenwood Christian Missionary society were entertained at the home of Mrs. Earl Ruff in Glenwood Tuesday afternoon.

In the absence of the leader, Mrs. Cross, the president, had charge of the program, which was as follows: the Rio Grande Lies Mrs. Pearl Stevens; Mrs. Lois Bechert; vocal duet by Mrs. V.

E. Lewark and Mrs. O. M. Brooks; Mexican Mrs.

Alta Wines; hidden answers conducted by Mrs. Carrie Armstrong; vocal duet, Mrs. Carver and Mrs. Irene Richardson. During the social hour dainty refreshments were served by the hostess and her assistant, Mrs.

Club Meets The Rushville E. S. O. club enjoyed its regular meeting Thursday afternoon at the Wamsley hotel. The business session opened in AL SMITH GOES TO FLORIDA New York, Feb.

6 E. Smith was enroute to Florida this afternoon for several weeks vacation. He was accompanied by Mrs. Smith.
