Avenue Methodist Church was held yesterday afternoon at the parsonage Cedar Avenue at the invitation of Mrs Guilbert Sirotti wife of the pastor Devotions were led by Mrs Florence Benson The reports of the secretary and treasurer were read ana accepted A letter was announcing the district meeting at the School Street Methodist Church Saco Thursday April 30 beginning at 10 am Reservations are to be made for the noon luncheon and eleven members planned to attend Mrs Briggs was welcomed as a member Plans were discussed for the himmage sale and the dates May 15 and 16 chosen' Mrs Garland to 'see about a place for it Mrs Hazel Kennett reported for the- nominating committee that the present officers would remain for another year President Mrs Mattie-Bliss Vice President Mrs Gertrude Leonard Secretary Mrs Hazel Davis and Treasurer Mrs Frances eon They were elected for the year There was discussion of a food sale a proposed project for April but it was finally decided to give money instead any aprons brought by Mrs Bliss were modeled by -Mrs Kennett A birthday card signed by the members was given to Mrs Gertrude Leonard and Happy Birthday sung Refreshments were served and a birthday bureau of vocational education which stated that the facilities for industrial arts did not meet the standards set by the State and approval for the program would not be continued beyond Sept 1 1964 This could mean the aid of the federal subsidy until standards are met and pos-sjbly effoct a kws of creditaL to-wmds graduation for some stu dents The letter also stated that fie home economics program was substandard but it was given approval until Sept 1 1967 with the hope that standards wiH be met by that time Hie resignation of Mrs Helen Grant was accepted with regret The committed agreed to cooperate with Rft Rev Msgr Edward request to change the da for the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes for Catholic high school students from Thursday to Monday evenings Coaches following his retirement after over 50 years as a registered pharmacist The event was held at the Wonderbar Steak House Biddeford with Albert Deshaies acting as master of ceremonies Demers a member of the YCPA is a life member former president and treasurer of the Maine Pharmaceutical Association and a member of the Cumberland County Pharmaceutical-Association Heserved on the Maine State Commission of Pharmacy from 1947 to 1950 and also served two years in the Maine Legislature He saw 22 service as a trustee of the Sanford Water District retiring in 1963 and was on the Sanford School Committee for six years At present Demers is a trustee of the Springvale Public Library- A gift of luggage and a scroll were presented during the affair which was also attended by his son Arthur and grandson
