Ku Mux Wan Membership Falling Off By LAWRENCE FALK United Press International RALEIGH, N.

C. hood and sheet of the Ku Klux Klan may be slipping. Not long ago members of the hooded order were loath to let. anyone know their secrets. Recently there has been a fusillade of news releases from Klan leaders and things so secret anymore.

Most of the publicity was triggered, when North Carolina Klan Grand Dragon Robert Jones ordered the Imperial Chaplain. George Dorsett of Greensboro, to get out. At the same time, Jones said James (Catfish) Cole of Kinston was banished from the group and demise came because he and Cole's membership. Since Shelton and Jones kicked Cole and Dorsett out, things have followed at a rapid pace. It was reported Shelton and Jones had been relieved of their duties by a never-before heard of National Intelligence Committee (NIC) met June 5 in Atlanta.

Both Jones and Shelton issued statements denying this although a reliable source said the NTC exists and has the power to so act. A few days later. Dorsett issued a news release saying the NIC did exist and did. in fact, depose Shelton and Jones. Then came a news release from Telvin Sexton, Tuscaloosa, imperial kligrapp (secretary) of the Klan.

Sexton said Shelton and Jones were still in control and there was no such thing as the NIC. This week Cole said the North Carolina state bureau of Investigation (SBI) ordered Dorsett out of the klan. The bureau denied it. Hard on the heels of that came a news release from Shelton, asking that the FBI and postal authorities look into the possibility Dorsett and another former klansman used the to by posing as members of the organization. With this spate of publicity, the klan may never be as secret as it once was.
