World Herald Lincoln Neb Sept 9 In his annual Teport of building and loan associationsin Nebraska Royse secretary of (he banking board condemns the policy of the associations in trying to build up the number of non borrowing stockholders saying Is the most apparent inherentWeakness of these Some of the larger associations have more money on hand than they can use and are losing the interest paid stock holders The report shows that" the assets of these associations are now $24885000 Ten years ago the assets vere about $4000000 In connection with the figures showing the present condition of building and Joan associations in Nebraska Secretary Royse makes the following general ob servations: In submitting this the' nineteenth an nuel report of the Building and Doan As sociations of Nebraska with such sum maries and comparisons as are necessary to set forth their condition at the present lime it is but necessary to direct atten tion to the fact that the interrupted gr owth and prosperity of these associa tions still continues without apparent break or check An increase in teu vears of from around $1000 OTO to $25100000 onstrates the fact that in the financial structure of the state a place existed lor the work of these institutions and the splendid growth shown bv this re port clearly sustains the wisdom of the Nebraska financiers who had to do with the laying the foundation of this blanch of finance now a potent influence lor wealth creation in the state unquestionably it is true that the cru cial test will come in future periods of depression when values shrink and prices iail and the over contident pay the pen alty of want of reasonable prudence However there is nothing in the condi thoassociations as a whole or the general character of the management that need cause serious that tne building and loan associations of the state will not stand a financial strain equal with other lines of business involv ing the aggregated accumulations of the people and I think it can be safely said that the bmloingand Joan of Ne aska are as safe "and1 conservitive as similar institutions' in older states where they have been long tried by all the finan cial vicissitudes that come in cycles of i make financial epochs I not necesBary for me to go into detail to call your attention to the various summaries set forth In this report which clearly indicate the past record the pres ent condition and tne future promise of these institutions? 1 am pleased to report to your honorable body that the su pervision of these institutions this de paitment
