i $2.40, I caught a mangrove snap- ncr which weighed one pound soaking wet. I fed him four dozen shrimp, which at the prevailing rate of 00 cents a dozen wasn't exactly tactical. A Wifely Suggestion In fact, my wife suggested that we buy some kingfish steaks which were very much cheaper. A neighboring bridge fisherman sug- 1 gested dropping a few unhooked shrimp to the snapper and het his appetite. They were acceptzi eagerly.

With his appetite primed, my snapper made a few the barnackle to adjust his belt buckle and then settled to the bottom where shrimp were appar- jenlly falling over themselves. My neighbor advised a constant rain of shrimp which seemed like a good idea, so I emptied Momma's bueket during the next few hours. At first I thought our ruse had worked. But before I could strike. the snapper would spit the sht'imp out and swim off.

I tried striking him the instant he picked the bait up. but then he have it in his mouth. He wore it like a mous- tache. When I was down to tHo last shrimp somebody told me 1 how to catch the snapper. The Real Secret Cast out the bait and let it rest on the bottom.

Nothing will happen foi perhaps five to ten minutes. then suddenly the bait will I be picked up. carried a few feet and then dropped. try to hook the fish when that happens. In a minute or two the bait will be grabbed again and right there the hook should be set.

Old Pros Retire: Three veteran members of the Kingston Bowling executive Colao, Jake Chichelsky and Jack this week. All three gave distinguished service to the organization and were among the top bowling enthusiasts. The 1954-55 makeup of the executive board is one of the best in years and the notable victories scored by the independent slate again emphasized that nomination and endorsement by the KBA is not a guarantee of election. We think time tor both sides to close ranks and work in close harmony.

We suggest an early meeting between the KBA. the two bowling proprietors and the KWBA to straighten out the difficulties surrounding the recent hassles over alley dates for the KBA. The city tournament entry slumped sharply this year, because all parties concerned were unable, or unwilling, to resolve their differences. If that happens again, the future of the KBA tournament is in distinct jeopardy. But a matter of fact that I drive as long a ball as there is around. Now, this telling tall tales over a cracker barrel. It could come as a surprise, however, when I tell you that the shot I consider my all-time best was a little old chip shot. The shot came during the 1942 PGA championship, which was held at Sea view Country Club at Absecon, outside of Atlantic City, It was on the 11th hole and I i was two up and two to play in the final match with Jim Turnesa, a guy you never do beat you do beat him.

I got up to within chip-shot range, and standing around waiting for Turnesa to make his fairway iron shot. As I waited. I said to mvsclf. why not go for the hole with this one? Why play it extra safe and look for that putt; Why not kill the match off right I took my chip shot and hit right for the eup and the ball ran right for the hole like a scalded dog and wound up right plumb in the eup. The shot gave me my major tournament victory.
