ALL EDITIONS A-28 The Arizona Republic Phoenix, Friday, July 20,197 UA hospital to seek 8.9% hike in rates TUCSON (AP) Tte University of Arizona will ask the Board of Regents Saturday to approve an 8.9 per cent rate increase for the university's teaching hospital, of A Vice President Sherwood Carr said Thursday. Carr said rising expenses and the need to avoid undercutting other Tucson hospitals are reasons behind the requested increase. "We don't want to undercut their rates," Carr said, "and we don't expect the legislature to support patients in the university hospital because they're paying less than they would elsewhere." The hospital has maintained Ihc same rates since it opened in September 1971, while other Tucson hospitals have had increases of up to 8 per cent in the same period. The proposed increase would bring the cost of a private room at the UA facility from $65 to $70 per day, and the cost of a semi-private room from $55 to $60.
