college foot ball tradition the victorious coach sometimes awards a game ball to one of his worthy performers But Doug Bariield learned Saturday afternoon that it can be more blessed to receive His players decided Barfield deserved a memento after the 29 14 upset of 18th ranked lorida which had arrived at Jordan Hare Stadium with no sym pathy for the Auburn predicament players gave this to quarterback and unleashed a field goal kicker who did things nobody in his league had ever done Charlie Trotman a sophomore from Montgomery replaced senior John Crane at quarterback and gave Auburn its best passing day of the season Trotman was 9 of 14 for 177 yards a touchdownand to the surprise of anyone who saw Auburn in 'its previous seven games no interceptions Buhthe leading scorer was Jorge Portela asophomore from Miami who set an SEC record five field goals and added two PATs for 17 points Barfield got the game ball but they let Portela keep his tee Auburn 4 4 used lorida turnovers to its advan tage instead of giving the opposition an edge in breaks a habit that was costly to the Tigers in earlier games lorida gave up the ball on four interceptions and one fumble and
