OctoberiO 2002-Page 7 The Era-Leader Franklinton La Wednesday The great turkey stuffing Lagntappe )My most favorite Thanksgiving is coming holiday up and even though I have no business overeating at any tiime or any place looking forward to the great turkey Until a few years ago all the Thanksgiving dinners were at my nouse A couple of years ago my niece ana nephew Barry and Hope Bickham invited my whole family for the dinner and it wasfantatic The StevensBickham group come en masse with kith and kin including infants to the prospective infirm Everyone added something to the delicious food which a including lurney ana an me trimmings veggies casseroles Sand of course cakes pies and puddings all homemade It 9was a great treat for me to go home to a clean kitchen for once on Thanksgiving! By Moggie Eickham 9 including turkey and all the trimmin The very next year my darling granddaughter Jade and her husband of less tnan a year decided to host the family dinner 'at their brand new home in Madisonville The SimmsBickham group include infants but did include the prospective infirm (me as it turned out) and a lot of young people plus one new puppy Everyone had brought their favorite dish and Jade had all her fine wedding china and silver and ciystal on linen-clad tables For the young couple it was a huge accomplishment and for me the grandmother it still makes me proud to know her major family social was such a success I think her approach was influenced by her grandmother Jence who polished silver for weeks before she had company for dinner Mr and Mrs Jared Lawrence Schmolke the former Casey Juanita Wilson Riiwley and Cassie Barber 1952 and 2002 On the other hand those cute little paper plates with turkeys and pumpkins look good to me now I hope going to be invited somewhere again this year but if not I will go into a paper mode-remember I had a heart attack! lift those heavy china plates anymore As for the traditional fooa some or which goes back to my menu turkey is a must combread dressing (some people say stuffing but to me stuffing refers to the shape my stomach is in after I eat dressing) sweet potatoes with marshamallow and pecan topping and apple and pumpkin pies Those were always present at my My own menu added spinach and artichoke casserole and Watergate salad and pecan pie which are the favorites of my children and grandchildren and I dare not deviate okay for me to add something but take away anything So heart diet or not (I think turkey sans dressing is the only thing heart-smart) I plan to stuff myself Day After all in my family a tradition Casey Wilson Jared Schmolke wed at Piffany Oaks on October 12 2002 The marriage of Casey Juanita Wilson and Jared Lawrence Schmolke was solemnized on October 122002 in the beautiful garden at Piffany Oaks in Mandeville LA with pastor Kris Chenier officiating A reception honoring the couple followed at Piffany Oaks The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ken Wilson of FranklintonLa The groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Jerry Schmolke of Covington La The bridewhose mother is the former Vera Kuhnwas graduated from Covington High School She is employed by the St Tammany Parish Government Casey is the granddaughter of Mrs Juanita Kuhn Taylor and the late Mr Hezzie Kuhn Sr and Mrs Ethel Wilson and the late Mr Edsel Wilson The groomwhose mother is die former Patty Taylor was graduated from Covington High School He is employed by Richlyn Construction Mr Schmolke is the grandson of Mr Lawrence Taylor and the late Mrs Amanda Carolyn Taylor and the late Mr Joseph Schmolke and the late Mrs Josephine Walters Schmolke Fitzmorris Following a trip to the Mississippi Gulf Coast the couple will reside in their new home in Mandeville Barbers to celebrate 50th anniversary Rawley and Cassie (Toney) Barber were wed on November 1 1952 at six-thirty in the evening at the home of the parents Now with six children sixteen grandchildren and one greatgrandchild they are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary tt'-f lit The reception will be held Saturday November 2 from pm in the afternoon at the Lake Choctaw Reception Center in Pine LA The event will be hosted by the children Mr and Mrs LaRoy (Bemadine) Baroer Mr and Mrs Troy (Jennifer) Barber Bill Barber Mr and Mrs Damon (Connie) Smith all of Franklinton and Mr and Mrs Larry fNita) Katz of Mandeville LA and Mra nd Mrs Ray (JoAnn) Boone of Perkinston MS Friends and family are invited to share this special occasion The couple requests no gifts Winterset Club begins Year Family Fun 11 Bowling Green School Fall Festival Thursday October 31st pm Located at Bowling Green School 700 Vamado Street Franklinton Serving delicious Chicken Spaghetti Dinners at 5:00 pm ($500) Dress up! Winterset Club began its 20022003 club year with a business meeting at the lovely Lynwood Subdivision home of Biitieree Schilling Co-hostesses were Delores Burch and Beverly Jackson President Mary Po Poole called the meeting to order and after prayer and reciting the club Collect the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved Eighteen members were present New members Kaye Ladner and Denise Gatewood were welcomed Callie's Tales from a Prehistoric Housewife' will be back next week Rosa Magee Williams honored on 2002-2003 two additional members Judy Cook and Dianna Thomas They were contacted and both accepted membership The door prize was won by Birtieree Schilling Everyone looks forward to the October meeting in die lovely new home of Nellie Jenkins in Ponchatoula After a delicious meal and members catching up on summer activities the meeting was adjourned with anticipation more of an exciting new year and many happy times together 107th birthday Mrs Williams was also presented with a commendation from United States Congressman David Vitter and an official commendation from President George Bush is also being prroarea to honor her birthday Senator Thomas stated "Mrs Rosa is a historical treasure for our community It is truly amazing to hear her tales or historical events that die observed while growing up It is a pleasure for me tobe one of her treating physicians as as an honor to serve as her Suite Senator and to be a part of presenting special recognitions from our United States President our United Stales Congressman and Governor of the state of Louisiana" New yearbooks were presented and programs for the upcoming year were reviewedT Finance committee chairman Birtieree Schilling read the finance report Janice Wallace asked for suggestions for fund raising ana after general discussion some new ideas were presented Members were reminded to sign up for work in the Bankston Country Store during the Fair A vote was taken to add 31 1914 she married Howard Williams from that union came 10 children 36 grandchildren 62 great-grandchildren 60 great-great grandchildren ana 17 great-great-greatgrandchildren At the age of one hundred Mrs Rosa Magee Williams wrote her own biography entitled In Grandma's Own Words Senator Jerry Thomas was on hand to present Mrs Williams with a commendation specially prepared to congratulating ner on this momentous occasion Senator Thomas also presented Mrs Williams with an official certificate from Governor Mike Foster commemorating her birthday and wishing her many more State Senator Jerry Thomas along with family and friends gathered at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Franklinton to honor Mrs Rosa Magee Williams on her 107th birthday Mrs Williams was bom on October 3 1895 in Franklinton she is the thirteenth child of Mark and Amanda Magee Mrs Williams attended Crystal Springs School and later in life at die age of 58 she attended the Washington Parish Training School for three years to become a midwife and nurse's aid She practiced nursing from 1927 to 1959 and was a midwife for 54 women in the Franklinton area Mrs Williams is a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was baptized at the age of twelve On December Standing left to right Senator Jerry Thomas Ricky Magee Sylvia Davis (daughter Vlnetta Williams (oldest daughter) Sybil Pierre (daughter twin) Edward Williams 1 fvouneest son) front row left to right Mrs Rosa Magee Williams Hailey Seilers (great- grelt-SandchUd) Eliza Watson (grandchild) 9.
