Pag 16-Tha Era-Laadar Frankllnton LA-Wdnsday Octobar 25 1995 News my iNLWo 1 Friends NeighborsJ I V' Bethel News Nt Hermon News Bv Beverlv ri Tnvlor Kountry Kitcher By: Louise Sylvest Bread Pudding 4 eggs beaten 1 cup sugar 1 large can of evaporated milk 1 can water 1 isp vanilla flavor or extract 12 cup raisins or 1 small can of crushed pineapple drained 6 slices of day old bread crumbled oleo sliced to top the pudding DIRECTIONS: Beal eggs then add the sugar canned milk water and vanilla Stir well Add raisins or crushed pineapple and bread crumbs Let mixture set about 15 or 20 minutes until bread is well soaked Stir up good and pour into a 9x13 inch baked Pyrex dish not greased but dot the top with oleo or butter Bake in an oven at 350 until firm (about 45 minutes to an hour) Use a lemon sauce or eat plain NOTE: Be sure you soak the raisins in hot water a little while before adding them to other ingredients The Fair was a big success "Sarah Sunday" Sfiltodl Class from Mt Hermon Baptist Church recently enjoyed a five-day trip to Tullahmna Tennessee They enjoyed seeing many points of interest on the way there and then had a great sight-seeing trip in Tullahoma Marilyn McClendon daughter of Pansy and Denman McClendon resides there and is the Minister of Youth and Education in her church Saturday the class went to Opryland and on Sunday they attended church with Marilyn They were recognized and had a great fellowship there Arriving back home Monday were Sarah Alford Carolyn Higgins Margie Miller Pansy McClendon and Charlene Ravencraft MHS cheerleaders Amanda Elliott Helen Goings and Amanda -Johnson attended the dedication of the fair stage last Sunday They passed out balloons and served refreshments Bv Brenda Nagee Happy 100th birthday Mrs Rosa! Hello there 1 hope that everyone had a good time at the fair Thank God for the weather There are many friends and family out from everywhere this week I would like to share some special news with you about a very special lady Believe me this woman has seen heard and tasted many moons of life There are others who God has blessed them to see one hundred years This special lady is Mrs Rosa Magee Williams Mrs Rosa was bom on October 3 189S in Washington Parish in the Belvieu Community Her parents were Mr Mark Christian Magee and Mrs Amanda Magee They were parents of thirteen children and Mrs Rosa was the youngest child She attended the Belvieu Church School and later she attended school in Franldinton Mrs Rosa was married to Mr Howard Williams on December 31 1914 To this union six children were borne He had four children from his first wife which was deceased Mrs Rosa raised all ten of these children as her very own She taught them to love God and to love each other Mrs Rosa had a love for nursing She worked with her mother-in-law Mrs Sylvia Williams and her sister-in-law Mrs Lozana Brown as a midwife She helped bring many children into this world After the state terminated the midwife deliveries she took training under Mrs Leahla Knight and Mrs Velma Fussell to practice nursing She worked with Dr McGchee and Dr Stafford helping to deliver babies and practiced nursing Even in her 80's she was still babysitting for various families During all these years she always tried to keep her family together Truly she has always been a woman of wisdom and a very thrifty person For the past twenty years she has been quilling knitting and crocheting for family members and many others Truly we thank God for Mrs Rosa Magee Williams Her birthday was celebrated on Oct 7 1995 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church pastored by Rev Reuben Comist at 2 pm Her favorite Bible verse is taken from Psalms 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty May all your other days to come be enjoyable and still be blessed So others can learn from your test This is a special prayer list: The Martin family the Chatman family Tempie Wilson Mrs Etta Magee and family and the Larry Williams family Happy Birthday to Helen Magee 10-29-95 Ration Crain 10-28-95 Alvin and Sharon Magee 10-27-95 and CJ Brown Pine -Thomas News Congratulations to Mrs Linda Fortenberry of our Ml Hermon School who has advanced to the finals of the 1996 Louisiana Teacher of the Year program Both of my children have had "Ms Linda" and she is "the All of us are proud of you! Last Monday several basketball players received their athletic jackets for lettering at MHS They were Susan Alford Rickey Burris Greg Martin Keisha Reed Ellen Simpson DcQunn Warren Tabitha Williams and Quinton Williams Receiving jackets for baseball were Damon Carpenter Kenny Lilly Tim Magee Robert Martin Steven Miller Toby Miller George Vamado and Coach Mike Anderson Bv Am Luper Fair hypnotist created lots of laughs Some area students found it hard to get out of bed this Monday morning after having a five (in some cases seven) day break from school for the Fair For those who like extra time off they only have a month to wait as there will be a one week break for Thanksgiving not unusual for most businesses in the parish to close their doors early during the Fair Its also very common for entire families to spend a major portion of the fair day period rubbing elbows with others doing the same the majority of the period My family has been known to do the same This year I attend much of the activities as I worked then stayed in trying to recoup from flu like symptoms that have been with me for going into a third week My daughters made up for my absence and kept up the tradition During the fair I made sure to go to Mile Branch and see the list of students who attended Mt Hermon Schools in the early 1 was especially interested in the BROCK children since featuring them this week There was a Jap Ollie Victoria and Lucious Brock I believe they were brothers and sisters Jap became the Louisiana State Inspector of Banks Lucious became a doctor opening his first practice in Mt Hermon and then he moved to McComb They were the children of James and Armethia "Messa" Holmes Brock Another child of Valentine Brock was a lawyer and newspaper publisher of the Era-Leader for many years! James parents were Valentine "Vol" and Bethany Ginn Brock They were members of the Bogue Chitto Church and built their home near Warnerton His parents were James and Elizabeth Purvis Brock and their home was somewhere around Bridge near Lexie Miss James and Elizabeth came from Chesterfield County South Carolina They were both born and raised there They came to our community around 1828 His parents are not known The BROCK family are probably of Irish descent but some family traditions hint that they Continued on 17 This weeks scripture is taken from Mark 3:25 And if a house be divided against itself that house cannot stand Well time to go for now! it il Sr I did attend the Fair Thursday evening to see Rick Trevino on stage This was a must for Ricki and Shannon Rick was good (real good) as was Eli Seals (as usual) But I got one of the best laughs had in a while when Ken Whitener (comedy hypnosis) took the stage Among the twenty people who agreed to take the stage as participants were Jeremy Gerald and Michael Hansen from our community Anyone who knows these two know that they are normally quite polite young men I guess they were two of the best picks from the audience What made the pair so hilarious to' those of us in the audience was not only the funny things they did on stage under hypnosis but also those of us who knew both of these guys knew that what we were seeing was so different from their Continued on 17 Enon News Bv Glcnrva Pcrrv Old photos bring back memories this weather nice? The ole horse at the Smith Tractor place would be hard to beat in book I liked them all The Fair Parade was very good Wednesday morning I especially liked the "cleaning ladies" and the "business men" They were something different Bv Nd I Smith BYW to sponsor fund raiser Mrs Dorothy Krubbe WMU Director at Franklinton First Baptist Church was special guest speaker for the recent Enlistment meeting -of the Mt Pisgah Baptist Young Women Mrs Krubbe talk was the Hands and the importance of ways one would minister Prayer request opened the meeting presided over by the President Shirley Barber Nell Smith voiced the prayer remembering those mentioned Mattie Pasterio named all the missionaries who had birthdays on that particular day and lead the prayer for the missionaries and their ministry Following the program and Blessing everyone enjoyed a covered dish meal Those attending were Shirley Barber Pam Bailey Patty Sumrall Mattie Pasterio Nell Smith Ruth Mier Frances Schilling and guest Mrs Dorothy Krubbe and Mrs Doyce Riley Smith Bv Louise Svlvesf Fall is a great time to visit relatives Welcome to the Fair! 1 hope you enjoyed it! Mr Tom Mizell brought delicious birthday cake and ice cream for everyone at the Enon Lunch Site last week on his birthday The late Mrs Velma Magee Fousse taught my oldest daughters English in the twelfth grade at the Istrouma Senior High School in Baton Rouge LA They graduated from there in 1965 and 1966 At the time we did not know that Mrs Velma was a sister of the late Dr TCW Magee of Franklinton He was our dentist when we lived here before we moved to Baton Rouge in 1950 She was a very sweet lady The beautiful flowers last Sunday at Enon Baptist Church were given to honor Mrs Margaret Townsend on her birthday by her husband and children The BYW will sponsor a fund raiser for the up-coming foreign missions offering on Friday November 10 beginning at 7 pm Hamburger plates will cost $300 each and can be eaten at the church or taken out See members of the BYW for tickets The Jubilation singers will be featured guest at Mt Pisgah for fifth Sunday night sing October 29 A fellowship time and refreshments will follow in the church fellowship hall Everyone is invited to attend Richard and Teresa Duncan and children were Saturday afternoon guests in the home of Bryan and Tammy Alford and girls Everyone was asked to bring old fair pictures to the Enon Lunch Site last week Several things really brought back memories Be sure to look around and enjoy the pretty golden rods and yellow daisies Get well greetings to Lulie Hennesy Estus James Lena Slaven Stanley Touchstone Bryant Jenkins Rev Jeny Kennedy Jim and Mary Lee Davis Minnie Hennesy Chester Jenkins JY Seal Dorothy Vamado Zulema Sullivan Keith Rochester Dot Eatn-mons Ollie Seal Lois Robinson and to all others failed to mention at this time May God richly bless and heal you Last Sunday afternoon everyone enjoyed a Golden Wedding Anniversary of OE and Ruth Ballard at the Fellowship Hall of Enon Baptist Church A large crowd was there A lot of out-of-town visitors were present Deepest Sympathy to the family of "Freddy" Jenkins He lived near Amite but he had a lot of friends in our community Mr and Mrs Andrew Tagliarino of Denham Springs stopped by last Friday for a short visit They were on their way to place two arrangements of flowers on the grave of their nephew and our grandson John Allen Donaldson Jr at the Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetary John as we called him died seven years ago Also Mr and Mrs Howard Ray Sylvest and daughter Rachel of Denham Springs also visited us There are several who are ill in our community Especially we need to pray for Mrs Cynthia Miller Mrs Athlee Dixon John Albers and others you know about Also pray for the families who have lost loved ones My Uncle Doyle Knight had open heart surgery at the East Jefferson Hospital in New Orleans He is doing fairly well Remember him Aunt Janie and the children in your prayers during this critical time Hope you are enjoying our cooler weather God Bless You The youth choir of Enon Baptist Church will meet every Sunday at 5 pm with their new director Mrs Cledy Watson Come prepared to have a great time!
