The Era-Leader Franklinton Wednesday December 9 1998 Rosa Williams celebrates 103 Blood Center Technician Trov Leggins and donor Patti Seals Mrs Seals was among the first to donate blood after the Franklinton Blood Center opened in November Rosa Williams a resident of Good Samaritan Nursing Home recently celebrated her 103 birthday Known for her skills and compassion for nursing and caring for newborn babies as well as all children she is one of the most beloved citizens Blood Center opens Franklinton branch The newly opened Blood Center Franklinton office is located at 1501 Washington Street in the building formerly occupied by Franklinton Interiors just past Citizens Bank It will be open on Thursday from pm and Saturday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm says Patti Seals who was one of the first donors the new facility a piece of Mrs Seals is Officer Manager for The Era-Leader in Franklinton and Has previously donated blood through her church makes me feel good to know I can help people in our community who need she says The Blood Center main office is in New Orleans Patsy Sandifer Director of the Center said take much just a little time and a whole lot of love for patients being treated at Riverside Medical Center The Blood Center is responsible for the supply of blood at our area hospital and is experiencing the typical holiday shortage lime is everybody's enemy during this holiday season but time is not a luxury that patients have if a blood transfusion is need It takes at least 48 hours from donation to the patient because blood has been tested and processed before it is sent to the Sandifer said there are certain rules to being a donor must be in good health at least 17 years of age and weigh a minimum of 1 10 pounds If you have high blood pressure and are on medication you can blood-it will lower your blood For those who donate blood between Thursday December 24 and Thursday January 7 the Center will give them a Limited Edition Blood Center Christmas ornament This gift is in appreciation for all the Holiday Heroes Donors to receive Christmas ornaments Rosa's children who were present for her 103 birthday celebration re from left Annie Augustine Vinette Williams Sybil Pidire Edward Williams and jil Davis Rosa and her husband Howard raised ten children Four were Mr Williams wi was a widower and six were born following thdr marriage in 1914 She was widowed alter almost 40 years Bowling Green 4-H news Donate blood between Thursday December 24 and Thursday January 7 and receive a Christmas Ornament from the Blood Center in Franklinton in appreciation for being a Holiday Hero If your blood type is 0 negative you are vital to newborn babies negative is the only blood type that they can receive particularly the Platelets in your blood latelets are the clotting component with a shelf life of only five days It is critically needed during the holiday season In addition 0 negative can be transfused to all patients at Riverside Medical Center regardless of their blood type There is a likelihood that family members also have the same blood type so bring a blood buddy Only 6 of the population is 0 negative-always always needed Call the Blood Center at 795-0506 and donate as soon as possible Tie Center is open Thursday 1:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 pm You must be in good health By: SETH FORNEA I hope that all of you enjoyed the fall srason I also hope that each of you got a chance to look at some of the interesting and creative things at the Youth Building 4-Hers really put in a lot of work this year at the fair In preparation for the fair many of our High School 4-Hers worked Monday and the Tuesday before the fair to help set up and tag the Youth Building entries It was a wonderful experience all of us met so new people That is one of the great things about 4-H you meet so many new friends One of our High School 4-Hcrs?
