ortunately, lh flood oanie et as boar whea every body was sleeping wn the cares of the past week, ami. no fir an wl have learned, no lives were loot. There wae a report of a cae of irowmug at which we believe without foundation. During Saturday night, the city streets seemed nie river. Ibe sewers were blled to itieir utmost earraeilw aad the bonldern of oar pave ments were put through a very unusual process of cleansing Throughout the city, we hue beard of but few cane of injury done to property.

the bridge over Ibe renal on Pennsylvania Arena wae eery amea inure-i By the Hood and weakeoed eo as to reader it dangerous to pass over it A email frame bouse awl near the nruige, carried a ay and landed some dis lance below. one wa injured, though the lunitws inn a narrow rwitpfl. The paper-mill of Mr. Jaw Bhidle. ou t'enn.

aylvanie Avenue, near Elm street, wae flooded and a Urge quantity of wall paper destroyed O-uer bouse in the same vicinity were over flowed. In the Fifth Ward, the houses at the hue of tne mil aultored more or lean. A torrent ol water rusneu aowa and went through the house of Mr Mhephar.t. 03 Liberty iireet, near the City Mill, carrying farniture. with it.

lo Birmingham, the atorin wae not so severe as on this side. The ouly damage done, as far a we learn, was at the inclined railway of J. Keeling A. where there was a land slide aud the water carried a vast nuantitr of slark down the hill, ailing the etreet below 10 the depth of urn im. vatnuge to tne railway abont $1011, and to the borough, $.10.

The Allegheny river, which is remarkable for "recoopemtiug" almost in the twinkling of an eye, nan risen rour leet by tea clock, A. on Sunday. All the way up the river as far as lieer Creek, we have heard of rafts havine nut. their cables and gone off on solitary voyages uwo uie river. At ine upper end 01 ilerr island, between the island and the shore there is a gorge of rafts and no doubt many were saved hy lodging there.

As many as sixty rarts were carried lieyo-id the bridges and a duien were dashed to pieces on the piers. We noticed two fine large board rafts doubled around one of the piers nf the St. Cisir Street Bridge. They were niauned at the time they struck, and all on uoari narrowly escaped with their lives. Two boats loaded with pigmetal.

sunk in the river at the upper end of the Fifth Ward. The storm also did a great deal of damage at Pine Creek, which was much higher than at any time before for four years. The torrent came rushing down, as if a dam had broken away, and flooded all the gardens and fields along its bauks. The garden of John Sowjer, which was a fine one, was much injured and the waters when retiring left a sediment of clay which will prevent the vegetables from springing up gin. A ten aero field of wheat belonging to Mr.

Shaw, of Shaw's Mills, was washed away and bats ehrwii badly by the rain, an such is the Vase with other fields in the neighborhood of i'ine Ceeek. Six bridges spanning Pine Creek were carried away. Four of them belonged to the Coal Railroad of Spang which runs from Sharps-burgh, back to the pits, a distance of three miles. The track was also torn up at different points. The other two were the bridges of the Butler Plank-Koad Company, and communication in that direction will be impossible for a few days to come.

The bridges will be rebuilt immediately. The freshet was peculiarly disastrous to the interests of Spang Co. Their ooai pits, the entrance to which were bnt a few feet above the usual water level, were entirely tilled with water, which will have to be taken out by pumps and the of coal will eaue a temporary stoppage of operations at the mills. The loss sustained by Rpuog Co. is estimated at between $2000 aud $1000.

We have also learned that the Canal In idge at Deer Creek was destroyed by the tl snd, and that a serious break occurred iu the canal at the same place. The embaokiucut was washed away a distauce of sixty feet. At various points, also, along the "nine mile level" the banks had elid down and filled the canal. The necessar repairs will occupy a week, before the canal will again be in order for boats. At Squaw Kun, a township bridge was carried away.

A bridge nf the Allegheny Valley Railroad, opposite r'airport, was also damaged by the water. One of the abutments was uudenninea and fell and the whole bridge is a ruin. A township bridge in the same locality is a total wreck. Tl.e storm was very severe also at Turtle Creek. Una bridge was carried away, and sad work was made amongst the rifts and coal boats lying at the mouth ut the creek.

We also hear of a heavy land cn the banks of the Mtlle-Saw Mill Run. The garden of Frank Leyda was entirely covered, and his house partially bailed in the earth. It is uot prohabij tht the storm extended over a greet We got it in all its fury in this vieini'y. Fears were entertained that the crops had suffered badly by it, particnlsrly the young eorn, bat, so fur as ws have learned, the damage has been less than might have been an ticipated. No doubt grain on declivitous slopes has been rather too thoroughly washed, but the injury sustained is not beyond repair ir we hare a little sunshine this week.

A good hot day will coax up the depressed eorn stalks and blades of wheat lo toe ir former position. The great ram of Saturday, did some damage to the Obionnd Pennsylvania Railroad. The Express train due here at o'clock Saturday evening-, run off the track abjut half a mile above Hayeville, owing to the sand and gravel washed npon the Railroad hy the rain. Several ears were damaged, but happily no person was injured, although there were ten loaded passenger cars in the train. The engine was not much battered.

The pa8cugtrs arrived in town abnut four o'clock on Sunday morning The obstruction wae all cleared away by Monday morning. The most serious damage to the ro4 we have heard of, is the demolition of the t'svt bridge aoross the Big Sewicklv. about Bfta inilea from this city. Theabutmeuta werewai-hed away, and the whole structure fell in. The bridge at Courtney's Ran is also much iijured, a part of the foundation, and a portion of 1ha arch having given way.

The trains bowever.still pass over It, and a large foroe is employed in its repair. A tres-le bridge will be erected at Big Sewickly to-day, and in the meantime the trains exchange passengers at this point. Since the above was written a note from the Hnpenntendent informs as the road will le in runniug order to-day throughout. The trains from the two ends of the road passed each other yesterday. The Big Sewickley and Courtney's Run were higher than was ever known before.

Some injury has been done also to public and private roads, and to growing crops on hill sides and in valleys, but npon the whole we think the rain has done more good than injury. So gret a quantity has not fallen iu the same time for a number of years. Aasaii AH Coiutt Cowtrriia.
