When the case of Oscar Kruegar of MeKeesport was called for trial yesterday the grand Jury was severely criticised by Jud'e Wiiite for the manner in which a return was made.

Kruegar was sued by Jacob Xyberg for allege! false pretense and larceny. Ny-bers claimed that Kruegar, who is a collector, got 43 50 from him as interest on a mortgage due another person and then appropriated it to hia own use. The face of indictment alleged fal-e pretense and made larceny the second count. In ordering the indictment set aside Judge White said the false pretense charge was not Pigned by the district attorney, and further that the papers did not show it to have been found by the gisnd jury. The only indictment found was for larceny.

the verdict. The court did so, making the order read: handling a church debt is vexatious and unsatisfactory to the last degree. As a rule the debt becomes an inheritance from the fathers to the children, and the amount of contention and bickering engendered by the financial burden makes the devil laugh. The association referred to had noticed this and though it saw a field for a church debt paying scheme, and so had provision made for such work in Its charter. Its work in the Allegheny-church is a sample of what can be done in that line.

In fact, it is successfully doing the same work in a number of churches and the results are -uniformly-good. The association assumes the debt under certain conditions and from that moment the trustees of the congregation go about their business with comparatively light hearts. The whole secret lies in a distribution of the burden among the members of the church in such a way that nobody feels the fractional part of the load that is laid upon his shoulders. The city treasurer's books have been gone over ami only a few mistakes of a few cents, which wcru merely clerical errors, were discovered much to the feratitication of MaJ. Dennl-son. The work of the Penn avenue improvements has also been completed and the labors cf the auditors are now being confined to the assessor's ofib-e and that of the city controller. Inuring the two two years' work, which has been most arduous and confining, there have been discovered mistakes In overpayments to contractors amounting to about $2,000. The attention of the contractors having been called to these overpayments, they promptly came forward and ettled for the amount, thus recovering for the city about Controller Gourley, when seen by the Commercial Gazette reporter iaH, regarding these statements: "The work of the auditors employed to go over the city's hooks was not much with the expectation of find'ng out mistakes a to payments of csh a it was for the purpose ot knowing that everything in the past was hs it should be.

"If it is such a Rood thing why not keep it up every year or month or "It will most probably be kept up each year it should be."
