After several animated in which two Presbyterian churches have borne a conspicuous part, the affairs of the New-York Church, Sev enth-ave. and were placed upon a ratlsfactory basis yesterday by the Presbytery.

A special mr-etmg had been called In the Old Firm Church to discuss of re? lieving the fine property of this congrrgatl un from the mortgage of IlOO.uOO which threatened Its destruc? tion. With a heroism scarcely paralleled In tho his? tory of the Presbytery, Lr. Charles fl. Robinson as? sumed the pastorate of this struggling congregation two years ago. Without a cent of salary he areal Into this work all the force of an enthusiast, and with as much success as 1f his services were paid for at their full value.

AU the time, however, the heavy mortgage han barrier to the growth of the church. Yesterday the trustees of tho Presbytery sent a letter In which they said they had ascertained th it a loan could be affected upon the property of the Church, of the Sea and Land at Market and Henry Sta, and that they had taken steps to carry out the instructions of the Presbytery to rals-- fMMMBB hy a mortgage upon the downtown property, and apply the money in part payment upon the mortgage on the church in Harlem. To this favorable action the Church Extension Committee added the suggestion, through its chairman, Dr. John Hall, that the com totttee should pay the 11,275 interest due last Feb? ruary upon ths mortgage. The directed tbs committee to make the payment, and Dr.

Rob? inson went to Harlem last evening one of the hap? piest men In the city. The Presbytery received a report from W. R. Worral! and J. Mcwilliam relative to the condition of the East Harlem Church.

The of the pastor, Dr. J. Q. Patterson, was behind 11,293, and the church building )s only partly completed. The Presbytery directed the churches to take up a special collectlor next Sunday to be sent to the Church Extension Committee for the purpose of liquidating the debt due Dr.

Patterson, in addition to this formal action, several members of the Pres? bytery left bills and checks with a committee fdr the same purpose, amounting to more than 1250. Dr. James Ramsay, Dr. C. A.
