Jackson Funeral Home in Carbondale is in charge of Gilbert 'Gib' Kohler ANNA Gilbert "Gib" Kohler, son of Roy Van and Hazel Georgia Sharp Kohler, was born in Dongola, and passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at the Union County Hospital in Anna at the age of 72. Mr. Kohler was united in marriage to Bonnie Schierbaum on June 16, 1962, in Mill Creek. He worked as a Massage Therapist and was a member of the American Massage Therapy Association for 32 years. He was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church for 54 years with the pleasure of serving the church as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon.

He compiled a church history, The First 100 Years." Mr. Kohler's belief was expressed in his motto, "I'm put on this earth to serve my God first and then my family and fellow man." Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Tamms; one daughter and son-in-law, Shawna Tyan and Scott Rhine; one son, Gilbert Brooks Kohler of Tamms; one grandson, Nicholas Evan Rhine; two brothers, Glenn Brown of Gainesville, Texas and Bon Kohler of Mill Creek; one sister, Wil-mena Allen of Long Beach, one cousin, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am. Saturday, June 9, at the Mill Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev.

Robert Richardson officiating. Interment will be in the St. Johns Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hileman and Parr Funeral Home.

Rufus H. Davidson HARRISBURG The Rev. Rufus H. Davidson, 86, died at 5:22 am. Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at his son Jim's residence in Harris-burg.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, with the Rev. Russell Stephens officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Rev.

Davidson was a minister and retired grocer. He pastored Scott St. Baptist Church for 21 years and Union Grove for 11 years. He also worked at Kroger, Food Lande and Federal Wholesale (Roundy's) for many years. He was a member of the Union Grove Baptist Church and the Harrisburg Masonic Lodge.

He was born on March 29, 1915, in Golconda, to Oliver Perry ttO.P." and Ethel (Wagner) Davidson. He married Jewell Aline Edmonds on March 23, 1942. She survives of Harrisburg. Other survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Marilyn Jean and Bill Espinosa of Denton, Texas and Linda Lee Summers of Harrisburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Joanna Davidson of Harrisburg; sister, Ruth Etcheson of Decatur; eight grandchildren, Brian and Jeremy Bennett, Tammy Gunning, Amy Hawkins, Jason and Brad Davidson and John and Gina Espinosa; and live greatgrandchildren. His parents, brother, Eugene Davidson, sister, Wanda Reed, and great-granddaughter, Audrey Fay Bennett preceded him in death.

Sarah E. Bathon PINCKNEYVILLE Sarah E. Bathon, 75, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at the Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis.

Sarah was a homemaker and had worked at the Pinckneyville Garment Factory. She was a member of the St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at Todds Mill and the St Mary Magdalen Altar Society. She was born July 25, 1925, at Tamaroa, the daughter of Charles Richard and Mary Elizabeth (Boismenue) Harris. She married Lawrence F. Bathon on Dec.

30, 1950, at St. Mary Magdalen Church at Todds Mill, and he survives of Pinckneyville. Other survivors include eight children, Sister Julia Marie "Mary'' Bathon, O.S.F. of Bird Island, William G. Bathon and wife, Marsha Ann of Pinckneyville, Richard E.

Bathon and wife, Judy of Tamaroa, Leonard C. Bathon and wife, LaVeda of Nashville, Lawrence D. Bathon and wife, Lisa of Georgetown, Donna M. Mikesell and friend of Nashville, John F. Bathon of Ashley and Janice E.

Rust and husband, Mike of Coul-terville; three brothers, Captain H. Harris, William D. Harris and Allen R. Harris, all of Tamaroa; two sisters, Susie M. Ernest of Coulterville, and Jennie B.

Cizick of Tamaroa; 15 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, Mary Elizabeth Boismenue Harris McCo-wen, son, Gerald A. Bathon, and brother, Hosea R. Harris. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am.

Mayer He started Mayer Brothers Motor Sales with his brother Gene in 1946 when they purchased a little gas station on West Main, across from Marion Memorial Hospital. They later acquired Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, GMC, and Mercedes-Benz Franchises 1960. Marvin retired in 1984. He was one of the founders of Kokopelli Estates and Golf Club.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Juanita Mayer of Marion; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Debbie Mayer of Marion; two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Maginness and Cheryl and Fred Motsinger, all of Marion; two stepsons and daughter-in-law, Greg and Susan Kessel and Scott Robison, all of Marion; seven grandchildren, Kevin and wife Bonnie Skoffic, Michael and wife Cathy Motsinger, Greg and wife Monica Mayer, Brian and Maria Motsinger, Melissa and Dan Rose, Curt Mayer and Chelsea Mayer; three stepgrandchil-dren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Bettie Mayer of Marion; a sister, Avis Gortz of Palm Springs, Calif. His parents and one sister, Helen Soref, preceded him in death. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Father Richard Mohr will officiate.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 11 am. until time of service at the funeral home. and Susie Marie Poole Hileman, was born in Mill Creek on July 16, 1944, and passed away Monday, June 4, 2001, at her home in Jonesboro at the age of 56. Mrs. Hunter was united in marriage to Karol L. Hunter in Anna on April 7, 1962. She had been employed as a cook for Anna School District 37 for 24 years.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, Karol of Jonesboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and B.J. Reach of Jonesboro; one son, Michael of Anna; three grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Jewel Hunter of Jonesboro; seven brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Margaret Ann Hileman of Tamms, Charlie and Barbara Hileman of Evansville, Ron Hileman of Anna, Joe and Dottie Hileman of Bloomington, Jesse and Elaine Hileman of South Elgin, Terry and Carol Hileman of Anna, and Phil and Sharon Hileman of Jonesboro; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Nadine Jordan of Anna, Joyce and Carroll Mowery of Dongola, Sharon and Terry Osman of Anna. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro, with Pastor David Eidson officiating.

Sanders of West Frankfort; and one daughter, Melody Ann Sanders of West Frankfort He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward and Jack Sanders, and two sisters, Alice Sanders and Edna Wittmann. Mr. Sanders was a teacher and administrator in Southern Illinois schools. He also ran the Sanders Insurance Agency, a firm begun by his father in the early years of West Frankfort LaVern was a graduate of Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas, with a bachelors degree in music and a masters degree in school administration. He had completed course work for an advanced degree in education from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Sanders was active in civic affairs and served on the city council of West Frankfort as well as Precinct Committeeman in the Frankfort Three Precinct He also served on the Franklin County School Board and most recently served as a trustee on the John A. Logan College Board. LaVern was a member of the American Association of School Administrators, National Education Association, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Rotary Club and the Phi Nu Alpha Fraternity. He was a member of the Central Methodist Church in West Frankfort He served his country in the U.S.

Army during World War II in the South Pacific. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 8, at 11 am. at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Pastor Becky Brault officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery in Thompson-ville. Military graveside rites will be conducted.

Madalyn Smith STIRITZ Madalyn Smith, 94, died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at the Union Hospital in West Frankfort Services will be at 1 p.m.

Saturday at the Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with the Rev. Shelly E. Forrest officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith had been a cook at various restaurants and was also homemaker. She was a member of the Stir-itz United Methodist Church. She was born on Sept 15, 1906, in Cardiff, 111., to Thomas and Elga (Hand) Singer.

She married John G. Smith on Sept 30, 1924, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1982. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Clif Inman of Villa Ridge; grandchildren, Cole and Patty Ken-drick of Stiritz, with whom she resided, Butch and Donna Fran-cescon of Stiritz, Mark and Vivian Winding of Villa Ridge and four other grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Gladys Singer of Stiritz; two sisters-in-law, Marie Singer of Stiritz and Oma Singer of Muskegon, and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, one granddaughter, six brothers and one sister.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Paul Hicks officiating.

Committal services will be held at the Sunset Hill Cemetery's Chapel in Ed-wardsville at 3:30 p.m. today. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Dillard was the first helper at the open hearth at Granite City Steel for 32 years and after retiring there he worked at St Elizabeth Hospital in the maintenance department until 1979. He was a member of the Church of God at Granite City. He was born on Nov. 27, 1914, in Eldorado, to James R.

and Minnie (Earhart) Dillard. He married Agnes Skelton on July 22, 1936, in Eldorado. She preceded him in death in 1992. Survivors include one son, Donald E. Dillard and wife, Ru-thann of Murphysboro, and their children, Brian E.

Dillard and wife, Gina of Murphysboro and Kevin J. Dillard and wife, Allison of St Louis; his other son, Larry G. Dillard and wife, Vickie of Granite City and their children, Jason Dillard and Vanessa Dillard, both of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his wife, infant twin children, Arlus and Agnes in 1939, and five brothers and six sisters.

Alvah Kelley VIENNA Alvah Kelley, 99, of Vienna, formerly of Goreville, passed away Monday, June 4, 2001, at the Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna. Alvah was bom Oct 9, 1901, in Goreville, the son of W.P. and Mexico (Ollis) Kelley. He was united in marriage to Martha Collier in 1928, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 1994.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William R. and Sandra Kelley of St. Peters, Mo. and Carl and Myrtle Kelley of Goreville; five grandchildren, Allen Kelley, Karen Woods, Brian Kelley, Diane Mayfield and Steven Kelley; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Orpha Corzine of Goreville. In addition to his parents and wife, Alvah was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam Kelley and Noel Kelley.

Alvah was a retired farmer. He enjoyed gardening, reading and corresponding with family and friends. Alvah was a graduate of Brown's Business College in Marion. He was a former Cana Grade School Board member, Goreville High School Board member, Johnson County ASCS Board member and a long-time member of the Cana Cemetery Board. Alvah was also a member of the Goreville Chapter 1009 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Saline Masonic Lodge 339 where he served as Lodge secretary for more than 25 years.

Alvah attended the Goreville First Baptist Church. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Saline Masonic Lodge 339 at 1 p.m. Saturday with funeral services immediately following at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Jay Franklin will officiate.

Burial will be in the Cana Cemetery in Goreville. Friends may call from 11 am. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Asthma Foundation of America, 125 15th St N.W., Suite 502, Washington, D.C.

Marie Bre-mont died in her sleep at 2:15 am. at a retirement home where she lived in Cande, said her nephew, Georges Cres-pin, one of two surviving fami AP photo- Bremont ly members.

She was considered the world's oldest person since trie death of Eva Morris of Britain in November, just four days before her 115th birthday. Surviving the tests of time wasn't always easy.
