6B RACINE SUNDAY BULLETIN Sunday, July 25. 1965 Autumn Scores a Touchdown for "What s h o u 1 d I take to wear???" wails the high school senior who is looking ahead to her first year in college. This predicament rises annually for many a campus- bound coed ... and to give you some ideas on freshman wardrobe planning, a national fashion board suggests a group of collegiate go-to- gethers. The result of their "brainstorming" was a compact group of basic sportswear classics and a few "strictly for fun" items—ail carefully color keyed so that the entire. wardrobe would pivot around a core cf separates: Skirts—2. Sweaters — 2 pullovers, 4 cardigans (classics and novelties). Blouses—2. Knit top—1. Pants~3. Jackets—2 (a bolero style, a blazer jacket). Jumper—1. The board suggested the neutral background of plaid, houndstooth checks and tweed as a good base on which to build a wardrobe. To kick off the fall season, sharply etched plaid co-ordinates are chosen for classroom and datetime wear. These talented go-togcthers achieve a smart suit look by pairing the jacket with a hip-stitched, box-pleated skirt and beruffled blouse. Houndstooth checks shape the lapels and pocket flaps of the jacket. Completing the total fashion picture are over-the-knee socks in a co-ordinate color. Jacket and skirt are wool; the blouse is a cotton-synthetic blend. On the fashion gridiron is this frisky, versatile tunic shift that's ready to dash off to rallies and post-game activities. Jet black grids square off the brightly colored topper as it skims just short of the knee. It is designed with a bias yoked bodice, roomy pockets and side slits at the hem. The costume is paired here with a ribbed knit pullover and boots. When you take a break from classes and head for • afternoon outings, try the ''madcap" look of tweed co -ordinates. Many college coeds prefer trim ankle length pants . . . and this brass buckled hip-rider is the leanest, rangiest pant ever to come from tweed country. For a terrific combo, team the pant with a leather piped ;• tweed bolero and ribbed, cotton-acrvlic shell with ; - "Illusion" sleeves. Tlie costume is pure wool. For Those Evenings on the Patio Outdoor family pleasures can be multiplied with an infra-red heater on the porch or patio for chilly days or nights. Infra-red heaters are now available for permanent installation. One manufacturer offers a portable barbecue with twin infra-red burners that double as heaters. Profecfive Coloration SANAA. Yemen — iJP) — Yemeni women of today have something in common with their American Red Indian sisters of a century ago — they cover their face with paint to prevent sunburn. Toiling all day in the scorching fields of the plains or the unsheltered highlands, the average Yemeni woman paints her face yellow, blue or red. The colors are those of pigments which are smeared over the face and brows to protect the skin underneath from the sun rays. Red Indian women on the American plains in the days| of the Wild West also covered their faces with paint to protect themselves from sunburn.
