Grossnickle delivered the commencement address to the members of the class of 1970 of the Thomas Johnson Evening High School. Mrs. Grossnickle related the problems and the courage required $» solve them, in finishing and graduating from evening school. _._ Diplomas were awarded to 48 students at the commencement exercises for the Gov. Thomas Johnson High School Evening Division held Monday, June 1 at the high school. Mrs. Donna Grossnickle, in the senior address, spoke of the difficulty of returning to high school to obtain a diploma after years out of school in business or raising a family. Basing her address on an Edgar Guestpoem, the graduating student expressed the thanks of all the graduates to Frederick County for allowing them to prove that "it can be done." Diplomas were presented by Chris T. Matthews, president of the Frederick County Board of Education and Wayne Holter, principal of the evening high school, assisted by FaeE. Grossnickle. Recognition awards were presented by Mrs. Ann Kronk, senior advisor. Dr. John L. Carnochan Jr., superintendent of schools, briefly addressed the graduates. The Gov. Thomas Johnson Glee Club and Band supplied music at the evening ceremony and the Rev. Ralph Sharpe delivered the invocation and benediction. Harris, George William Hoffman Jr., Larry William Hood, Dorothy Louise Ickes, Sheila P. Jackson, "Patricia Beall Jessee and Bruce T. Joy. Also Dale A. Kauffman, Lawrence W. Kennell, Grace J. Lewis, Sandra L. Lushbaugh, Gretchen D. Martin, Mary Elizabeth Carr Mercer, Harvey R. Miller m, Lillie Hardy Morris, Kay Francis O'Brien, Paula L. Phillips, Jeanette Am Ramsburg, Nathaniel B. Rollins, Elva Rae Weagley Schultz, JoAnn Delores Sewell, Dennis E. Sherrill, Brenda Freeman Smith, Peggy A. Summers, Theresa C. Thomas, Ronald Otis Ware, Betty J. Weddle, Phyllis M. Weedon and Michael E. Young. Graduated in the summer of 1969 and honored at the ceremony were Cora Eleanor Amos, Lillian Russell Holter, Edythe Blackwell Hudak and Beulah Mae Levering.
