Baueh, Haynie share lead WNMU lines up trio Associated Press ATLANTA — Laura Baugh, a teen-ager making her pro debut, fired a remarkable three-under-par 70 Friday to share the lead after the first round of the $30,000 Lady Tara Golf Classic with veteran Sandra Haynie. The 18-year-old, S-foot-5, 120-pound blonde — touted as the newest attraction on the Ladies Professional Golf Association tour — qualified only Thursday after a grueling 54 holes in which she fired 231 over the par 73, 6,335-yard Indian Hills Country Club course. Miss Haynie, runnerup last week in the Heritage Village Open, had three birdies, an eagle and two bogeys in her round. No one else bettered par. Three strokes back at 73 were Joann Washam, Bonnie Bryant and Judy Rankin. Betty Burfeindt was at 74. Ten girls were at 75, headed by leading money winner Kathy Whitworth. Secretariat f of fer fails | HAZEL PARK, Mich. (AP) I.— Secretariat, the 3-year-old flcolt who outraced all comers •j;£to gain the Triple Crown, fcwon't jog five-eighths of a "mile for $30,000, Hazel Park officials say. Miss Baugh, a recent Long Beach, Calif., high school graduate, opened her round with a birdie on the par-four, 360-yard first hole and got an eagle on the 505-yard 14th hole, a par five. She had pars on each of the other 16 holes. "I'm very happy," the former U.S. Women's Amateur champion said of her round. "The trees were very good to me today." Miss Baugh was referring to the 14th hole in which her second shot struck a tree and glanced to within five feet of the hole. She proceeded to drop in her putt for the eagle. Miss Baugh, clad in shocking pink hot pants, a white blouse and matching pink pigtail ribbons, also hit a tree on 17 which helped her match par on that hole. Defending champion Jan Ferraris was back in the pack with an 80, while two- time winner of this tournament Jane Blalock had a 77, as did Sue Berning, winner of last -week's Heritage. Italians banned from tennis play MILAN, Italy (AP) - Adriano Panatta and Paolo Bertolucci, Italy's Davis Cup stars, were suspended for three months from the Italian Tennis Federation for joining an international boycott of Wimbledon. The ban, announced Friday, apparently dashed Italy's hopes of advancing in the Davis Cup competitor!, which resumes in Turin July 20 witli a match against Spain. The punitive action is the first taken by a national federation against players who sat out Wimbledon to protest the suspension of Yugoslav star Nikki Pilic. However, the Italian federation said it would .notify the International Lawn Tennis Federation and other national associations of the actiori. Renta, Camper!
