Cl.ris Hanson, ope/ator of the Hanien Fishenes at the Columbus- av waterfront, was one of the last lo leave the fishing grounds east of Kelleys Island Sunday afternoon and had to oattle five-inch ice all tJie way Into Lorain, not being able to enter Sandusky Bay because of heavy ice. Hansen said he would have to berth his boat, "Maria." in Lorain for the winter because of being caught by the sudden freeze. He brought In 3,000 pounds of perch on his final haul. Hansen is a gilnet operator. Island fishermen reported losing a few trapnets and one gilnet. Most of the fishermen are reported to have a good supply of fish in cold storage for winter sales. Montgomery Link With Singer Told By British Tabloid LONDON (INS)—A' tabloid London newspaper said today that Field Marshal Earl Montgomery is getting himself talked about after being seen in public several times jwith an American nightclub singer. The Daily Sketch said Montgomery met blonde Connie Moore aboard the Queen M,ary last month when they sat together at the captain's table. The couple met again when the distinguished soldier went to see Miss Moore's cabaret act. Tuesday, Montgomery and the singer lunched together, and went to the circus. Miss Moore said she thinks the Weld marshal is a "wonderful man," but added: "Look here, it's platonic, strictly Platonic. After all, I am a married woman with two children." TlOO Wifo Shot Him In Self Defense, Husband Says NEW YORK (INS)—A New York woman who shot her husband was helS today for grand jury action although he pleaded in her defense claiming she was only defending herself. Warren Sonnick, 28, testified that he slapped his 29-year-old wife, Margaret, several times when he came home "after running around with another woman." Mrs. Sonnick grabbed a rifle which her husband said went off when he attempted to knock it out of her hand with a shovel. Mrs. Sonnick 's lawyer asked that the case be dismissed but the mag- i.9trate declared "I disagree," and allowed the defendant to continue on parole until the grand jury acts Advise Research Farm To Retail Spread Of Prices WASHINGTON (INS)—The Agriculture Department's Dairy Research and Marketing Advisory committee suggests some research on farm-to-retail price spreads. The department Is attempting to step up work In this field for a number of commodities to find out whether the middle man is taking too large a cut out of the consumer 's food dollar. Kroger Employes Share In Gifts Employes of Sandusky Kroger will participate in the 18th annual Christmas gifts by the company amounting to $21,400 for the Toledo area which includes the local store.
