The enthusiastic acceptance of the youthful volunteer by both patients and personnel at St. Patrick's hospital has been a rewarding experience which has far surpassed expectations, a hospital 'spokesman said. i The program at the hospital i permits the teen-ager to serve in I selected areas of the hospital. It i includes 20 hours of formal class- jroom instruction and demonstrations which are designed to prepare the volunteer for the duties she is expected to perform. Her assignments include such ; duties as serving as hostesses at the information desk, escorting patients to and from various service departments, assisting with ;the admission and discharge of patients, directing visitors, running errands, answering patients' signals, and some clerical duties. The volunteer agrees to serve ! a specified number of hours each week and to observe the rules I and regulations set up for teen- i age volunteers on a national basis. For example, she pledges to keep confidential all information ; concerning patients, to maintain a satisfactory scholastic average in high school, and to adhere to the ethical standards of behavior re- i quired of the professional repre- j sentatives of the hospital.
