Dean Cuplin Of West Bend Is A Lieutenant WEST BEND - Dean Cuplin, son of the Nevuis Cuplins, received his commission as a second lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force Feb. 16 at San Antonio, Tex, where he attended Officers Training School. Mrs. Dean Cuplin of Bloomington, HI. and Mrs. Nevuis Cuplin went to San Antonio for the exercises and they and 2nd Lt. Cuplin returned to West Bend Feb. 20. The latter reports to Minot, N. D., March 7. - o - HONOR STUDENT Mary Nessen, daughter of the Edward Nessens, sophomore at N.I.A.C.C., Mason City, received a certificate of membership in the Alpha chapter of the Iowa Junior College Honor Society Feb. 20. She attained membership as she was on the Dean's List for the first semester at the college with a 3.5 grade average. - o Donna Barber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Barber and a senior at Wayne State Teachers College, Wayne, Nebr., is practice teaching at Council Bluffs. Wayne Hanselman, sophomore at Westmar College, LeMars, was among 19 football players receiving letters for the 1967 season. Debra Schmitt, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Schmitt, underwent corrective surgery Feb. 22 at University Hospital, Iowa City. L.W.M.L. Lutheran World Day of Prayer service will be held at Algona March 1 at 2 p. m. The offering is for Lutheran Bible translators. Mrs. Harold Morey returned Tuesday, March S, 1968 Algona (la.) Upper Des Moines-7 home last weekend from Lutheran hospital, Ft. Dodge, where she underwent tests. Lenten services will begin Thursday, Feb. 29, at 7:30 p. m. in Peace Lutheran church. March 6, the services will be held on Thursday evening also, but thereafter they will be held on Wednesday evenings. Mr. and Mrs. Art Mogler, recently wed, were honored at a wedding reception at the Rebekah hall Feb. 24. They will live near Whittemore on the Mogler home. JOLLY NEIGHBORS The Jolly Neighbors Club of Lotts Creek met Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Phyllis Rusch. Eleven members answered roll call by giving an odd combination of food eaten. Gladys Hading led a discussion of the packet lesson, "Call the Meeting to Order." The next meeting will be March 20 at 1:30 with Patty Rusch as hostess.
