jQ 78 The Arizona Republic Phoenix, Sat., Ang. 15,1970 13 exhibitions set with Kapp, Natnath still out Associated Press Joe Kapp of the Minnesota Vikings and Joe Namath of the New York Jets still will be among the missing this weekend when the 26 National Football League teams engage in a full schedule of 13 exhibition games. Six of the clubs — San Francisco, Atlanta, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Boston, and Denver — will be seeing game action for the first time. The big football weekend began last night with Baltimore at Kansas City and Detroit at Buffalo. There will be a nine - game program tonight, an afternoon game at Boston tomorrow and a Monday night contest in Philadelphia. The Vikings, NFL champions last year, will be playing at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers in one of to- night's games. Gary Cuozzo is expected to start for Minnesota in place of the absent Kapp. Terry Bradshaw, who impressed in the Steelers' opener, probably will get some more game time. Al Woodall will be Na- math's replacement as the New York Jets face the Atlanta Falcons at Winston - Salem, N.C. Tom Nobbis, Falcon linebacker, is due to test his knee that underwent surgery last year. The Jets will be without Gerry Philbin, defensive end who suffered a shoulder dislocation in the opener. Other night games include Dallas at Los Angeles, Chicago vs. Green Bay at Milwaukee in their annual Shrine Game, New Orleans at Houston, the New York Giants at San Diego, St. Louis at Denver, Cincinnati at Miami and San Francisco vs. Cleveland at Tampa, Fla. The Boston Patriots play their first and only home exhibition game tomorrow afternoon at Boston College Field against the Washington Redskins, coached by Bill Austin in the absence of the ailing Vince Lombardi. The Monday night game, first pro night game in the history of Franklin Field, will give Philadelphia fans their first look at the 1970 Eagles against Daryle Lamionica and the Oakland Raiders. Two opening game winners will meet at the Los Angeles Coliseum when the Cowboys, who beat San Diego last week, take on the Rams, winners over Cleveland. Green Bay, which came from behind to tie the Giants in its opener 31-31, takes on its old traditional rivals, the Bears, who knocked off Houston last week behind Bobby Douglass. The Packers think they may have found a replacement for the r e t i r e d Boyd Dowler in ex-Miami receiver Jack Clancy. I We're get to.
