Natchitoches today joined hun dreds of other communities throughout the United States Canada Alaska and Hawaii that will sponsor National Day on Saturday Sept 22 Ralph Todd president of the Kiwanis club announced today National Day Is designed to attract more attention to the problem of underprivileged children and to raise funds to meet these needs It also attempts to focus attention upon the accomplishment of youth Most of the 3300 Kiwanis clubs throughout the continent are also planning observances of the day In cooperation with the National Day Foundation Inc Hollywood Calif for the 'Natchitoches Enterprise the new owners Dillard Hardin and Breedlove take over the editing and publishing of the paper It is with mingled joy and sorrow that I make the above statement Sorrow that after the many years the paper has been in the family it is now out of our hands It was started by my father the late Hopkins Payne Breazeale Sr and taken over at his death by my mother Mrs Cammilla Breazeale Then a number of years ago I became associated with her here and for the past decade the paper has been owner edited and published by me Joy that the paper will be in the hands of competent able Dillard Hardin has been associated with me and the paper for more than five years during which time he has proven his worth time and again thus making him well aware of the ideals policies and methods we have had since the establishment of the paper Mr Breedlove is well known in our and parish and it is not necessary for me to comment on his connection with the paper It is also a decided joy for me to know that Mrs Nell Young who has done such a splendid job since becoming a member of the staff four years ago will continue in her present position In sayingg to my connection with The Enterprise I sincerely hope that all of my thousands of friends and people with whom I have had such pleasant business associations during the years will continue their support of the paper CARMEN BREAZEALE Funeral Services For Andy Miller Held Tuesday Funeral services for A (Andy) Miller 33 of El Dorado Ark and Cbldwater La were held at 3 pm Tuesday at Cold-water Baptist church with the Rev Oliver Roberts officiating Interment was in the Coldwater Baptist cemetery under the direction of Blanchard Funeral home Mr Miller was electrocuted accidently about 6:30 pm Sunday Sept 2 while statement of policies will be released by the publishers next week Hunting Season Nov 2 Dec 16 Licenses on Sale Hunting licenses for 1951 went on sale this week at the office of heriff Earl Morris The tags will sell for $1 for res ldents of any age up to 60 years over 60 residents are granted a hunting permit free Non-resident four day license is $5 or $25 for season Residents 60 years of age or older may secure a permit at the office The duck season opens in Louisiana Nov 2 and runs through December 16 an addition of ten days over last season The bag limit for geese was also raised to five in the parish for twenty-three years seventeen of which have been connected with Northwestern State college In my years of teaching I have taught hondreds mi boys and girls who I believe can answer for me and my work My teaching experience has been in the field of history and civics and through this work I feel I know and understand the working of our government and can faithfully represent you Fredericks commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Public Welfare announced today Mrs Hankins a graduate of Northwestern State college was a teacher and supervisor of student activities in the student center at Northwestern before entering wel fare work She has had a year of graduate w'ork at the Tulane university school of social w'ork Mrs wanking is being promoted from supervisor of case work in Pointe Coupee Mrs Marie Brldwell present director is being relieved at her own request and will remain with Pointe Claiborne parish staff Sgt Durr Wins First Place in Pistol Match Sergeant Boyd Durr of the Natchitoches Police tepartment copped the first place trophy in 'Individual events Wednesday in an inter-city pistol match held at Bastrop It marked the first time the local officers have won a first place emblem since they began competing although they have won nuumerous other places Sgt Durr fired a 977 to win over the present state champion and two former champs in the exhibition match The NPD team won second place in team event with a 3:707 score being edged by Monroe with a 3766 count Firing as team were Durr Marion Shivers Richard Horton Reggie Schmerheim with Charlie Monk as alternate The local officers plan to compete in a match at Alexandria next month EARL BREEDLOVE IS TREASURER OF LOCAL CHURCH The first quarterly conference of the First Methodist church was held Monday night with Rev Jolly Harper district superintendent of Alexandria presiding Earl Breed love was elected treasurer for the church succeding Joe Hendrickson who had resigned Mr Hendrickson has accepted a job as teacher at Rodesa Other members elected to important posts in the church were Mrs Mil ler superintendent childrens division of the Sunday school Tom Williams
