Multi-cultural class of fered This fall, students can explore art, music and theater while learning about other cultures as part of the new Lee College multi-cultural studies program. The program, which emphasizes the many contributions that blacks, Chicanos and women have made to American society, gives students the opportunity to take the regular basic college courses required for most degrees by focusing on multi-cultural studies. The art, music and theater appreciation classes provide an essential complement to the regular curriculum. During the fall semester, AFAA 1307, Art Appreciation, will be offered, with the first 10 weeks devoted to the visual arts and the remaining five weeks concentrating on theater arts. In the spring, MAPR isio. Music Appreciation, will be offered, with the first five weeks covering theater arts and the last 10 weeks on music appreciation. PLITT THEATRES "We want students to come away with the skills necessary to appreciate art, music and the theater, specifically looking at the artistic, musical and theatrical contributions of these minorities," said Billy Grimsley, who serves as coordinator of the multi-cultural program. • Steve Neihaus will be teaching the art appreciation session, while Dan Mendoza will end the fall semester and begin the spring semester with the theater arts session. Tom Stone will teach the music appreciation section during the last 10 weeks of the spring semester. Field trips will be an important part of each study. According to Neihaus, art appreciation will possibly involve trips to galleries, museums, and even ethnic neighborhoods, where day-to-day life will be explored as an art form. In addition to t h art/theater/music appreciation courses, a multicultural emphasis will be included in special English Composition, Introductory Sociology and U.S History courses. Students may take just one class of the block offered, or they may enroll in the entire 12- credit hour block with multicultural emphasis. Students who take the entire multi-cultural block will have the basis for a liberal arts degree. Students may also use these courses as a part of other degree plans. Registration at Lee College will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 24 through 27,10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 28 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29.
