Another report, meanwhile, said foreclosures in Texas and other oil-producing states have increased as much as 60 percent over the past year, and several housing industry leaders foresee a continuing tide of delinquent mortgage payments. Although the cyclical nature of the housing market and the influx of baby boomers into the prime home-buying ages might seem-to point to another boom, lower investment incentives probably will moderate the upward trend, the A&M center reported. Amarillo plans birthday blowout AMARILLO (AP) — A Texas-sized birthday party celebrates Amarillo's 100th year this weekend with a laser show and a tribute to the railroads that helped build the Panhandle city. Attention focused on the Amarillo Civic Center complex Saturday for a Railroad Days celebration highlighted by entertainment, food vendors, educational displays, railroad cars, surrey rides and Centennial souvenir booths. An air shosv featuring the Confederate Air Force also was planned. To showcase the role railroads played in Amarillo's development, Santa Fe Railway arranged to bring in a series of special railroad cars for display. An 85-foot rolling museum containing railroad artifacts was open for tours. Other pieces of railroad equipment on display, but not open for tours, were a derrick used for re-railing equipment, a diner car and two business cars. Railroad Days featured two stages with continuous live entertainment. On Sunday, the day designated to commemorate Amarillo's founding, members of the Amarillo Women's Forum will serve free ice cream and cake at an afternoon party near the Civic Center. Later Sunday, the entertainment spotlight moves to the Civic requires caii aHrr 3 ? ~ Center Coliseum where the Amarillo Symphony will play a pops con- i PROJECT MANAGER ! c ls^R~N ; tmE^\pplVTr-iSo"n! cert - A Iaser snow ' sponsored by Budco and special friends of U.- J n '"' Centennial Committee, will provide a spectacular conclusion to the musical program. Sheriff says tape won't hurt sting MIDLAND (AP) — The outcome of an Iranian arms deal undercover sting operation conducted by the Midland County Sheriff's office will not be affected by the release of tape-recordings of a private session between Sheriff Gary Painter and county commissioners. Painter said. However, commissioners are divided on their opinions on the weapons sting and information revealed by the tapes, they said Friday. Retired District Judge Perry D. Pickett last week ordered the county to open to the public tapes of a private 45-minute meeting on Monday. The public officials discussed the sting operation that netted 47- year-old Victor Fonseca of Lisbon. Portugal, on a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity. The judge, responding to a lawsuit filed by the Midland Reporter-Telegram, said he felt the public had a right to know what they discussed. , CallCT III!
