U.L EDITIONS 34 Nader says state lax in job efforts Chandler Mayor George Nader, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor, charged yesterday that state government is unwilling to encourage private business and industry to participate in job training and job creation programs. ^peaking to the Casey Club at noon, Nader contended this unwillingness is costing Arizo- naUaxpayers "untold dollars in I unemployment compensa- tiofi and welfare tax dollars." «' \Nader cited a request of th^ San Carlos Apache Indian Tr(be, which wanted the state to approve a skill center facility* to be funded by federal dollars, as an example of state government unwillingness. t *The Camps Committee, which is an armxof the executive branch of our state gov- erOment, turned the San Carlos- application down^thout giving a reason;" leader said. He said the only human resources development program originating in the state "is the one at Chandler, whic'h did not obtain a single dollar frdto, state government. '|l am simply saying that the* state government should encourage the development of these job training, job creation programs and even be- co$ie involved directly with th« federal government in helping to secure the needed fuijds," he added. It is necessary for the state in Jhis day and age to get its share of local tax dollars sent ^Washington "to serve the people originally who provid- edkhese funds," he said. . Kruglick youth Moderate students across the nation have begun to challenge the extremists of both thg left and the right, Dr. John Kruglick, candidate for the Democratic nomination to th,e U.S. Senate, said yesterday. •...•• t. He urged a group of young volunteers at his campaign headquarters at 4450 N. Central to "work for legal change, for long-term political action." Kruglick, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat held by Republican incumbent Sen. Paul Fahnin, said that such politic^l action must handle all the problems of American life today, including health care, jobs, taxes, the environment, human and natural resources, eqjial opportunity, liberty, justice and war. ^Working in a political campaign isn't glamorous," heC said. "It's collecting signatures on petitions, going door - to - door, telephoning, meeting with toeople to ex- pl^in your point Of view." Students have made a big mistake by letting "the rock-throwers and burners come to r -present them" and by! not ;? Baking out them- se^ves, Kruglick said. 7 Ijair campaign jlromise issued liy Orren Beaty Qrren Beaty Jr., candidate fop the Democratic nomination in the 3rd Congressional District, yesterday pledged to conduct his campaign according to the code developed by the, Fair Campaign Practices Committee., In a,letter to Rep. Sam Steigej, E^Arlz., Beaty urged the; incumbent to sign the pUtfge, noting, "If we con- du£t responsible campaigns, the voters-of the 3rd District wit be the winners." 6eaty said he will confine himself to exploring with the voters the type of representation Steiger ' has provided antTfthat Baaty will do if he it.
