He has headed commit- tees on youth services, vocational guidance; drug abuse and crippled children. He is bishop of the Synod of Chicago, Reformed Episcopal church, and rector of St. Andrew's-Cheney Memorial church in Beverly Hills. Janice Kuchta, a student leader'from St. Paul High school, met last week in Washington with Rep John Fary. who praised her "leadership qualities and outstanding personality." They met in the congressman's office, where they discussed the federal government and its various functions. "Janice, of 5912 S. Oak Park ave., was one of 2,000 students chosen from across the nation and several foreign countries to participate in the President's classroom, a program designed to bring student leaders in contact with government officials and programs. Fary led Janice through the details of numerous bills he was involved with, including a bill that would spur investments in manufacturing plants, one aimed at ending fraudulent medi- caid-medicare abuses, another that would .protect the economic rights of labor in construction industries and an amendment to the Federal Aviation Act that would encourage reduced airline fares for the elderly Janice met briefly with some of, the congressman's key staff and was shown how the office responds to the daily demands of Congress "I share her amazement with this whole system," said Fary. "Her enthusiasm is inspiring. It gives me confidence in the future to know that bright young people are compelled to answer the challenge of leadership." Janice Was invited to tour the White House and was present to see Prime Minis- ter of Canada Pierre-Elliot Trudeau arrive by helicopter for an official state visit with President Carter. She also observed Congress in session and sat hi on committee hearings. "This is all so breathtaking," she told Fary, "it seems so large, so complex." Coombs is promoted Fred H. Coombs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren F. Coombs, 6327 S. Talman, was promoted to Army private first class at Ft. Hood, Tex. Pfc. Coombs entered the Army in November, 1975.
