Only a few points on the Gulf Coast reported 90-de- 2 killed as floods hit Pennsylvania towns L\ X Associated Press POTTSTOWN, Pa. - Manatawny Creek, dredged last summer to prevent another flood like the one spawned % Tropical Storm Agnes, sud" denly flooded its banks and spilled into Pottstown Friday.- In nearby Boyertown, two children were reported drowned when they were swept away in surging water which closed in on their home. Water flooded numerous basements and made many city streets impassable in Pottetown, 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The rain let up Friday af-' ternoon, however, and the National Weather Service said the creek was receding. The Schuylkill River, which; joined the Manatawny and, other rivers last June in the, aftermath of Agnes to create the worst flood in the nation's history, was swollen and on the rise at midafterhoon. However, the weather service said it was expected to crest below flood stage. In WilkeS'Barre, hard hit by Agnes, jittery residents awoke Friday to find eome streets flooded, and the gooey mud — which ,-aused millions of dollars in damage last year - evident in small amounts, Power outages also plunged sections of the city into darkness. However, the Susquehanna River, which last year hurdled dikes, came nftwhere near topping its banks Friday. Most of the flooding in Wilkes-Barre was blamed on clogged storm drains, some still choked by debris from last year's disaster. In North Carolina, floodwater from rain-swollen Crabtree Creek spilled through parts of Raleigh, running 3- feet deep across U.S. 70 and forcing a huge shopping center to close. The same areas were hit by flooding after heavy rains in early February. A SHAKE with a friendly down payment!
