The board also approved an appraisal calendar for the 198788 school year and accepted a calendar for scheduled 1987-88 reports by principals and other administrators. New appraisers are Jimmy Creel. Baytown Junior School assistant principal; Richard Miles, Hoss S. Sterling High School assistant principal; Peggy Jo Robertson. Kilgore Center secondary supervisor, and Shelley Swedlaw. the district's assistant director of special education. All four have been named since May to their respective positions. The board approved Sept. 21- Jan. 15 as the first appraisal period for 1967-88 and Jan. 18- May'27 as the second appraisal period. Each teacher appraisal consists of results from two classroom observations. Teachers will know in advance the date of each observation, in accordance with board policy set last year, noted Assistant Superintendent Barry Nettles. Nettles said House Bill 173. passed this summer, requires no fewer than two appraisals for teachers on probation and for teachers on level one of the stale's career ladder supplemental pay scale. HB 173 requires only one appraisal for teachers on levels two, three and four of the career ladder who rated "exceeds expectations" or "clearly outstan- ding" on their most recent appraisal. Nettles said. Administrators who will- report to the board this year include the bilingual education director (October!, an elementary principal f November i. . a junior school principal (January), the director of special education (February), a high school principal (March) arid another elementary school principal (April). These administrative reports are required under school reforms passed in recent years by slate legislators. In other business, trustees appointed Superintendent Bill Kennedy as the school district's representative to the Region IV Education Service Center's Regional Advisory Committee. The board also approved hiring 12 teachers and granting seven resignations. Stock quotes Courtesy of Paine. Webber.
