Kennedy's assassination. Trading was moderate. The Dow Jones average of 30 industrials closed off 4.82 at 709.74, lowest since Aug. 9, 1963 when it .stood at 708.39. On-Nov. 22, 1963, the day Kennedy was shot, it was 711.49. — The Reasons Analysts attributed the decline to continued uneasiness over developments in Cambodia, continuing fears of inflation and worries over lower first quarter earnings reports. Brokers noted the lighter volume (10.59 million shares vs. 11.44 million Monday) and said it indicated a lack of buying rather than strong selling pres- -.% sure. The New York Stack Exchange's index of. some 1,200 common stocks closed off 0.48 at 43.11, lowest level since Nov. 22, 1966 when it closed at 43.08. Standard & Poor's 500-stock index was off 0.77 to 78.60, a new 1970 low. There were 1,039 declines and 311 advances, with 495 new 1970 lows and 1 new high. Group Trends Mail order-retail, utilities, rails, oils, airlines and rubber issues'were all generally lower. Aircraft were up, while steels, motors, electronics, metals and chemicals were mixed. •/ Forty-eight blocks of 10,000 shares or over were traded Tuesday, .compared with 58 Monday. . / Largest was a ^51,300-share block of Parke,/Davis, which was the most active stock, closing at 19%, off 1V« on 441,100 shares. Lambs were steady. U.S. No. 1 to 3 200 to 230 pound butchers sold at-country points for $23.75 to $24.25 and at LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTER plants for_ 124.25 to $25 with some Is and 2s to $25.25. Sows under 400 pounds were $19.75 to $21.25. Choice and prinie shorn slaughter lambs were $26.50 to $27 with high dressing to $27.50. Prices and receipts are listed in the tables in this section.
