April 4, 1975 udents Clash With Riot Police SEOUL, Soulh Korea (AP) About 8,000 students battled riot police Thursday with rocks and fire hoses at two major universities here in antigoverriment demonstrations. 'Police used tear gas to end the • clashes at Seoul National University and at Yonsei University after five hours. At least 127 students, all but one from Seoul National University, were taken into custody and a dozen policemen and students were injured. About 2,000 Seoul National University students shouted "Pai-k (President Chung Hee Parkl regime out 1 ' and threw rocks at 500 police who used tear gas to block them from marching further on a street near their campus. The students demanded that Ihe government allow 15Q recently released political prisoners, most of them students. to return to school. All had been charged in an alleged plot to overthrow the Park government. He released them in mid- February in a conciliatory move. At Yonsei University, a ma jor private Christian school, 6,000 students used rocks and fire hoses to battle 500 police men, protesting that Education Minister Yo Ki-clioon pressured Yonsei president Park Dae-siin into resigning. The university president had decided to reinstate dissident professors «nd students. Dissident poet Kim Chi-ha, who was among the political prisoners freed by Park in February, was indicted today on charges of violating South Korea's strict anti-Communist law.
