Something New Added To Prize Hereford Amesr Iowa, July 7 (fP)--Royal Rupert 90th. a prize 938.000 Hereford bull, has had something new added--a pituitary gland. Prince Rupert, always a prize bull but never a fattier, underwent aa operation yesterday aimed at corrective his sterility. Dr. M. A. Eixuerson of the Iowa State College veterinary department performed the operation, which was the transplanting of the pituitary gland of a slaughtered bull into the right flank of Prince Rupert The veterinarian said it would be a week or so before the success of the transplanting could be determined. It will take several months more to learn if the operation corrects, the sterility.^ 1 In just an hour and three-quar-j ters yesterday. Dr. Emmerson removed the pituitary gland from the base of the brain of a two-year- old bull, slaughtered at the Iowa Packing Co. plant at Des Moines. rushed the gland to Ames and transplanted it in Prince Rupert. The prize animal is owned by Gov. Boy Turner of Oklahoma.
