New Magazine Depicts Actor On Front Page A striking portrait of John Wayne appears on the cover of the premier issue of "In The Know," a photo-news monthly magazine. Edited by M. B. Shestack, formerly a producer at CBS News, "In The Know" has just gone on sale. In this first issue, I n The Know probes Wayne's stature as America's most durable hero-figure, and seeks the reasons why. There are an additional 24 family-oriented features. "In The Know" has been likened to People, a very successful weekly which debuted last year. "In The Know," Shestack adds, however, is designed more to fill the void left by the demise of Life and Look. On a once-a-month basis, he says, they are aiming at an initial national circulation of 300,000 with growth by the end of 1975 projected to 500,000 per issue. with a LENNOX* electronic air cleaner Removes up to 99%' of the ragweed pollen and 96%* of the dust from the air passing through it. Program Highlights Delacroix The life of Eugene Delacroix is the stuff of which historical novels are made. He was the illegitimate son of the greatest statesman of the age, Talleyrand; he was brilliant and aristocratic, a thorough man of the world whose closest friends were Chopin and George Sand. But beneath his elegant exterior, Delacroix barely contained the spirit of a tiger and that spirit, as Kenneth Clark points out in "The Romantic Rebellion," Monday at 9:30 p.m. on Channel 7 and Sunday at 10 p.m. on Channel 11, emerged in some of the fiercest and most sensuously barbaric paintings ever created. Nearly all of Delacroix's great works involved the shedding of blood, and Lord Clark characterizes many of them as scenes of indescribable carnage and ferocity. Delacroix was well aware of this, and he called the three paintings by which he made himself famous "my three massacres." They are "The Massacre at Chios," the background of which was repainted afte rDelacroix was the landscapes of Constable; "The Death of Sardanapalus," taken from a poem by Byron; and "The Entry of the Crusaders intoConstaninople." This last painting, in Lord Clark's view, is Delacroix's most successful, and it reveals something of the artist who created it. The tone is dark; the barbaric crusaders, having conquered the civilized world, have no idea what to do with it. They will destroy it out of sheer embarrassment. The next painter to be presented in "The Romantic Rebellion" is the often underrated Jean - Francois Millet. rsssffsffsarfsmj. Milland plays a billionaire in the film about two children with psychic powers, and the grandiose stone mansion at Pebble Beach, Calif., was used to depict his residence. "It was for sale during the 1940s," Milland recalled, "and I made an impulsive, ridiculous offer of $186,000 wich was accepted. I left a $10,000 check as a deposit, then brought my wife up from Bel Air to see our grand new home. The weather was cold and overcast, and the castle looked so gloomy that my wife refused even to go in. "I had to cancel the deal and they returned my check, but I was the owner of that three-million dollar mansion — foraweek!" $100 OFF \ Lennox Central Air Conditioning Unit That Matches Your Furnace (Offer ends 6-7-75) Nifty offer Just add Lenno* air conditioning to your present healing system dur my Lennox Nifty Weather Days and get $100 off our regular price.
