I am. 10-yeans:0ld and have shopped at a certain store since ;KiJqpe»Bd;a think the gum and novelties machines should^ taketfJojit dfjlhe store. I went to the store and put 10 cents into' one of these machines and a ring came out. There was an "out of order" sign on one of the machines, but not the one I put my money into. I then put another dime into the same machine that 1 had just put money into and nothing came out. I said to the check-out person, "May I have my dime back?" She said, "Go over to the other lady." The other employe told me, "All the machines are out of order." I told her the sign was only on one machine and not the machine I had put my dime into. I told her I had just received a ring out of the same machine. Her answer was, "You're lucky you got something." She. got me so mad I didn't remember if I had 10 cents or 25 cents when she asked me. r ;,,.;·. x Being 10-years-old, I probably won't get an answer to Orta-dP^^esldent manager of the store said yon will definitely get yw it certs back. He said, however, that when he checked out the story with his check-out employe, she said that at first yon pointed to the machine that was out of order what you: asked for your money back. Then, you rotated to another machine. The maaager added that yon are a super girl to have written this letter aid he will rectify the situation. He said If there ever is a question cpaceraiag a refund, one should take the matter to the store's service desk and if me is not satisfied see the manager. You have learned that a It-year-old's concern can be nrttted in a newspaper. I a)ri writing this letter in the hopes of correcting an undesirable situation that exists at a store. The situation concerns the magazines that are on display there. Any person, adult or child, that walks up to the checkout counter to pay for their purchase is exposed to a large selection of magazines and paperbacks that, to say the 1 least, border on pornography. I feel that if a store chooses to sell the material that I am calling your attention to, it should do so in an "under the ^counter" manner, or in the confines of an "Adults Only" section that is completely out of the view of anyone who does not wish to be exposed to it. · The store Is family-oriented and therefore the business is no place for such material to be on display in public view. I am therefore, asking that the books and magazines be removed from public display or off the premises completely.' ·' :-'.-' ' '·'·-.- vi ·"' '.'- .''·' "'-·· ,' Mayor Dai Tondn, village of Merrionette Park ^-district manager for the south regional of flee toM as Monday that he would direct the manager of the store in question to remove the paperbacks from display and no longer sell the paperbacks. He said he would have the paperbacks removed because he to concerned with what the company has to do to serve the community well, Regarding the magazines, the manager of the store said he now has new shelves that will cover-up explicit aspects FENCING SALE 50% off.* Wards chain link fabric in a range of heights, qualities. , Protrrt your children, pets and yard while enhancing the beauty and value of your property. When my husband made the reservation two weeks in advance there was no mention made of the two-for-one dinner being from a special menu. Upon our arrival we declined ordering from the bar in- · asmuch as neither of us drinks and the waitress presented 'us with a menu for dinner selection. There was no mention ·about a special menu--there was an announcement over the loudspeaker system about Thursdays being a two-for- one special night, etc. My husband decided to order filet {mignon which was priced the same as a prime rib din- · ner--$12. i ' Everything was fine until the bill came which was $27, an eye-opener. Upon questioning the waitress, she was surprised and really apologetic that the filet was not on the two-for-one dinner order. Her surprise was that we were not aware the filet mignon was not a two-for-one. We had been told nothing about the special menu; no mention was made on the regular menu concerning which items were inclusive of the twb-for-one and which were not. Our surprise was that there was no indication to us in any way that there was a special menu involved on Thursdays--that filet mignon which cost the same as prime rib was not on the two-for-one special, but the prime rib ($12 on the menu) dinner'was a two-for-one special Upon BUT discussion with the waitress, she produced an advertisement which was very conveniently available on the desk on the maitre d'. Unfortunately this had not been produced before we ordered. Naturally my husband paid the bill and we left the restaurant with both of us feeling we were "ripped off' and that we would never return to the restaurant. Does the special menu apply only to nondrinkers? Oak Lawn resident A spokesman for the restaorant said the special menn is stapled onto the regular menu and It Is on the flyers that are distributed. Therefore, she said It Is very clear which meals are offered on a two-for-one basis. We suggested that she tell the waitresses to remind customers which meals are Included in the two-for-one. She said she would do this. She added that the two-for-one offer applies to everyone. * * * ' Readers are Invited to send their questions and problems to Helping Hand, Economist Newspapers, 5151 S.
