Six Will Vie for Macoupin Queen Six young women will vie for the title "Miss Macoupin County Falf of 1968, and one will be crowned queen Tuesday evening, July 16, by the retiring queen Miss Nadine DeMartini offienld. Candidates this year Include: Miss Cynthia Lee Barnes, 17, sponsored by Klwanis Club of Girard; Miss Carolyn Tapp, 18, sponsored bj» Vlrden Community School District; Miss Ruth Ann Mabus, 18, sponsored by Northwestern High School Stu dent Council: Miss Lenora Maxwell, 17, of Southwestern High School; Miss Beverly Mor, 16, sponsored by Gillesple Lions lub, and Miss Patricia Millard, 17, sponsored by Carllnville ihamber of Commerce. The winner receives $100 cash upon completion of her appearance at the state contest to be leld at St. Nicholas Hotel in Springfield next January in connection with the convention of :ounty Fairs. First runner-up will receive $30 cash award and ,econd place winner receives $20. All contestants receive tiaras and banners, and a pedal novelty is being planned by the committee, Mr. and Mrs. lharles R. Perrings, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Rosentreter and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Greenwait. Trophy for the new queen will be presented by Adkins & Marke Development Co., and first run* ner-up receives a trophy frem Pressler • Conoco Service. The Larry Dale Combo of Effingham will play at the queen contest. Also on Tuesday night there will be a pig scramble, where over 100 boys and girls under 14 will scramble for 40 pigs turned loose in a pen, providing the boy or girl has facilities to care for the pig and will bring a pig back to next year's contest.
