Page 16-THE HERALD, Provo. Utah, Sunday, April 6, 1975 Am. Fork Airman Completes Course SAN ANTONIO, Tex. Airman Gavin D. Christen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald J. Christen of 490 N. 500 E. American Fork, has been assigned to Lowry AFB, Colo., after completing Air Force basic training. During his six weeks at the Air • Training Command's Lackland AFB, Tex., he studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special instruction in human relations. The airman has been assigned Local Cadet Excels at West Point WEST POINT, N.Y., Brig. Gen. and Mrs. Harry Rising of Provo visited their son, Cadet Harry N. Rising, III, a plebe (freshmen) at the U.S. Military Academy during the annual Plebe Parent Weekend activities March 26-30. Cadet Rising, a 1974 graduate of Provo High School escorted his parents and his sister, Judy Rising, also of Provo, as they had an opportunity to meet faculty members and learn firsthand about the life of a plebe at the Academy. While they were there, Harry's parents were advised that their son's academic accomplishments and military proficiency have been recognized by his being named to the Dean's List, the Commandant of Cadets List and the Superintendent's List. Airman Graduates Goes to Korea Aboard Carrier WICHITA FALLS, Tex. - A Provo man has been graduated at Sheppard AFB, Tex., from the technical training course for U.S. Air Force aircraft mechanics. Airman Brett W. Barney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carold W. Barney of 368 W. 1150 N., Provo, was trained to repair current Air Force jet aircraft. Completion of the course enables him to receive academic credits through the community college of the Air Force. The airman now goes to Moody AFB, Ga., for duty with a unit of the Air Training Command. Airman Barney attended Provo High School. Provo Girl in A.F. SAN ANTONIO, Tex. Airman Patricia K. McClanahan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Morgan of 1089 W. 860 N. Provo, has been selected for technical training in the U.S. Air Force aircraft maintenance field at Sheppard AFB, Tex. The airman recently .completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex., where she studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and recited special instruction in human relations. Airman McClanahan is a 1972 graduate of Fontana, Calif, High School. Graduates in Illinois RANTOUL, III. - Chanute AFB, 111., has announced the graduation of Airman Steven G. Bowcut of Orem, from the U. S. Air Force's aircraft support equipment repairman course conducted by the Air Training Command. Airman Bowcut, son of Mrs. Betty Bowcut of 472 N. 400 W. Orem, was trained to repair generators, gas turbines, and hydraulic pumping equipment. Completion of the course enables him to receive academic credits through the Community College of the Air Force. The airman is being assigned to Travis AFB, Calif. Airman Bowcut is a 1974 graduate of Pleasant Grove (Utah) High School. His wife, Denise, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Micky Taylor of 411 E. State Road. Pleasant Grnvo Spoleto Festival SPOLETO, Italy (UPI) -Gian Carlo Menotti's Festival of the Two Worlds will be held in this Umbrian hilltown June 20 to July 13, during which 85 performances involving 600 artists, craftsmen and technicians will be given. Young orchestral conductor Christopher Keene is comusic director with Menotti and dancer-choreographer Jerome Bobbins is the new director of special programs. to the Technical Training Center at Lowry for specialized training in the munitions and weapons maintenance field. Airman Christen is a 1973 graduate of American Fork High School. His wife, Nerine, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Conder of 540 E. 300 N. American Fork. 2 Orem Residents Join Navy GAVIN D. CHRISTEN Ken Kelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Kelson of 853 N. 235 E., Orem, and Jim Otteson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Otteson of 948 N. 350 E., all of Orem, have been sworn in to the Navy's Delayed Entry Program by Lt. S.J. WinowiczJr. Chief Ed Dazey, recruiter, witnessed the ceremonies at the Navy's Recruiting Station at 450 N. University Ave. in Provo. Both men enlisted under the School-Horn eport Guarantee Program and will depart for active duty on June 9,1975. They chose training in the field of operations specialist (radar) and will be homepprted for their initial assignment to a command in San Diego, Calif. Currently both are seniors at Orem High School and will be graduated in May of this year. Following nine weeks of basic training at San Diego, they will receive two weeks paid vacation before reporting for duty at the Operations Specialist School.
