Workers of America won a Union Representation election at the Louisiana Garment Mfg Co 2001 St Bernard Avenue by a vote of 147 for the Union to 58 for the company The election was conducted by the NLRB The organizing committee within the plant was headed by Arnold Vlgne and Deola Richardson who also acted as observers at the election The organizing campaign was under the direction of Chuck Newell manager of the New Orleans Joint Board Ruby Sumler and Leonard Lewis of national office Columbus Street He said Jackson and three companions followed him in a pickup truck Detectives Vincent Lore and Ronald Kennedy later located the truck at Gentilly Blvd and St Bernard and arrested its three occupants Jackson who witnesses said had drawn an automatic pistol to fire at Guillot but shot into the ground when grabbed by an unidentified youth was not arrested until later Jackson records show was arrested Aug 7 1964 for shooting and wounding Rivers Frederick III in a restaurant at Bell
