Carter, 77, of Grantsburg, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Aly Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in McGinnis Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Carter died Sunday, May 20, 1984, in Hillview Nursing Home in Vienna. He was a retired employee of the Anna Mental Health Center.

He was born Feb. 11, 1907, in Union County, to William J. and Amanda Hall Carter. He married Helen Stockdale Dec. 19, 1967.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Jerry of Route 1, Buncombe; four stepsons, Larry Trovillion, Lowell Trovillion and Danny Joe Trovillion, all of Vienna, and Kenneth Trovillion of West Frankfort; one daughter, Lois Benson of St. Louis, one stepdaughter, Edna Walter of Vienna; one brother, Fred Carter of Buncombe; and three grandchildren. Murphysboro to distribute commodities Government commodities, including cheese and butter, will be distributed beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Murphysboro Food Bank on South 20th. Logan offers over-55 job training John A. Logan College is offering free job training and job placement assistance to those 55 years old who meet the Job Training Partnership Act income guidelines. Under the provisions of the Older Individual Program, senior citizens may participate in three programs: security guard classes, which be-' gin Tuesday, May 29; building maintenance, Tuesday, May 29 and certified nursing assistant, Tuesday, May 22. 331 or 326. Mabel Hood Mabel Hood, 87, of 1441 N. 14th Murphysboro, died Monday, May 21, 1984, in the Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro. Mrs. Hood was born Feb.

4, 1897, in Wolf Lake, to John D. and Mary A. Poindexter Brothers. Survivors include one daughter, Edith Mosko of Avella, two sons, Donald of Goreville and Earl of Marion; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two sisters, Esther Tucker and Thelma Parks, both of Wolf Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.

Hood, two children and 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the 'Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m.

Wednesday and until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Delores Ruth Gilliam Delores Ruth Gilliam, 61, of Route 1, Du Quoin, died at 11:25 a.m. Monday, May 21, 1984, in Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Mrs. Gilliam was a member of the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church.

She was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Du Quoin, to Henry William and Rose Etta Moye Little. She married Clarence M. Gilliam Nov. 5, 1946, in Du Quoin.

He died Aug. 2, 1982. Survivors include two daughters, Alice Shelton of Herrin and Ruth Ann Allen of Oklahoma City, Okla; two sons, David Mifflin of Du Quoin and Raymond Edward Mifflin of Oklahoma City; two stepsons, Charles Gilliam of San Diego, and Jack E. Gilliam of New Holland, Ohio; a sister, Delcie Irene Wright of Ina; two brothers, John Little of Flora and George Little of Du Quoin; 11 grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. One sister also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Neal Memorial Chapel in Du Quoin. Burial will be in Old Du Quoin Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

Betty Walker Duffy Funeral services were held today at St. Mary's Church in Alexandria, with burial at 10 a.m. in I.O.O.F. Cemetery for Betty Walker Duffy. The Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m.

Monday. Mrs. Duffy, 59, of Alexandria, formerly of the Jonesboro area, died Sunday, May 20, 1984, in Alexandria, She was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Jonesboro to Clarence and Jenny Will-iford Walker. She married Everett Duffy on Jan.

24, 1944, in Alexandria, Ind. Survivors include her husband; three children, Alfred, William and Mary Alice; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Gladys Halterman of Jonesboro, Mrs. Ruth Parks of Anna, Mrs. Edith Hay of Marion, and Mrs.

Fligor was retired from SIU-C 1974. Prior to his unveristy ap-pointment, he taught at University tHigh School, Pomona Ridge and fBuncombe Training School and local vrural schools. He was born Aug. 23, 1915, in Bos-kydell, to Theo and Harriett Stearns Fligor. He married Lucille Hartley vin 1936.

She preceded him in death in i 1977. He married Ruth Wines Brewer fin March 1983. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. She was a member of the Columbia Senior Citizens Center. She was born Sept. 1, 1912, in Roy-alton, to George and Martha Molnar Popovich. Survivors include her husband, Charles; one daughter, Carol Schneider of Columbia; two grandchildren, Lori and Eric Schneider, also of Columbia; two brothers, Charles Belik of St.

Louis, and John Belik of Carbondale; and a sister, Ann Dur-han of California. Dimple M. Tippy Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville for Dimple M. Tippy, 72, of 8142 California, Carterville.

She was a member of Crainville Baptist Church. She was born Oct. 3, 1911, in Tunnel Hill, to Charles and Maude Choate Flora. She was married in 1931 to Irmon M. Tippy.

He died in 1968. Terry Eubanks was convicted one year ago of stabbing a Sesser man and was sentenced to probation in April 1983. However, Judge Larry Baker, of Elizabethtown, found that Eubanks had violated his parole when he was charged with two counts of aggravated battery of Mary Furlow in con nection with the death of Mrs. Fur-low in December. Eubanks has been released on an appeal bond, according to Assistant Franklin County State's Attorney Kyle Vantrease.

Vantrease said there have been preliminary indications Eubanks will appeal the sentencing. Eubanks has 30 days to file an appeal. Eubanks has yet to be tried on the additional aggravated battery charges and could receive two to five years if convicted of the crime. Rosa C. Schorn Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.

today, until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Campbell Hill and thereafter at the church. Mrs. Schorn was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill.

She was born Dec. 3, 1899, in Denmark to Philip and Caroline Mueller Mohr. She married Ernest Schorn on Nov. 23, 1922, in Campbell Hill. Survivors include her husband; a son, Walter J.

Schorn and daughter-in-law, Lucille Schorn, of Campbell Hill; and a granddaughter, LuAnn Schorn of Campbell Hill. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Charles B. Casper Charles B. Casper, 86, of Dongola, died Monday, May 21, 1984, at Ma-saac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Mr. Casper was a member of the Mount Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Dongola. He was born Feb. 16, 1898, in Union County to John and Alice Schluter Casper. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Earnhart of Dongola; a son, Darrell Casper of Festus, 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Iva Johnson of Greeley, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Anna. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery near Dongola. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sophie Knop Sophie Knop, 96, of rural Chester, died at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 1934, at St. Anne's Health Care Center in Chester. Funeral arrangements are pending at Wilson Funeral Home in Steeleville. Carbondale James M.

Mooney, 33, of Route 5, Carbondale was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault Monday night following an incident at Tres Hombres, 119 N. Washington St. Employees of the restaurant told police Mooney produced an open pocket knife and held it in a threatening manner after being asked to leave at 8:17 p.m. Monday for disruptive behavior. He was arrested a short time later at the ABC Liqour Mart, 109 N.

Washington on a charge of aggravated assault. While being transported to the Jackson County Jail Mooney allegedly spat on a Carbondale police officer, resulting in the additional charge of aggravated battery. Johnson County David R. Marshall, 24, of Gol-conda, was arrested Monday on warrants charging him with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and unlawful delivery of alcohol to persons under 21 years of age. The charges stem from a May 11 incident in northern Johnson County.

Michael died Sunday, May 20, 1984, at home. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was born Oct. 10, 1901, in Washington County, near Hoyleton, to Fred and Caroline Wittemeyer Steinkamp. She married Edward F.

Michael July 4, 1926, in Hoyleton. He died Feb. 28, 1969. Survivors include a son, Martin of Centralia; a daughter, Loraine Reinhardt of Murphysboro; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Gus Steinkamp of Centralia; and five sisters, Lydia Brinkman of Carlyle, Ida Carroll and Amanda Eisenbeis St. Louis, Lena Klieboeker of Ferrin and Hulda Kroeger of Centralia.

White, of Petersburg, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 1984, after a long illness. She was born Feb. 2, 1903, in Shoals, to Lisette Viola and Vincent Byron Turner. She married Luther A.

White on June 24, 1922, in Effingham. He preceded her in death in 1972. Raines, 59, of 2003 Alexander Murphysboro, was released on a notice to appear in court early today after what Murphysboro police identified as a personal argument at Commercial Avenue and 21st Streets. Police said investigation at the scene at 12:18 a.m. today indicated an argument involving gunshots. Police said brothers Robert and David Wayman apparently were involved in the argument, but would provide no information. A check of trailer homes in the area revealed a shotgun and two spent shells in the Raines home.

Police said Raines admitted he had been involved in an argument with the Wayman brothers. Police said it has not been determined if shots actually were fired at anyone, or merely fired into the air. The case is still under investigation.
